This weekend we celebrated our 1️⃣ year old 🥹

🎉We kept it simple with a BYO picnic in the park 🧺
🎉We asked for no presents 🎁 and chose to fundraise for in her name instead 💕
🎉We chose not to give out party bags 🫶🏻
🎉We used our party kit plates and bowls ♻️
🎉Everyone took their waste home and we collected the food waste which we put in our caddy at home 🚮

It was a perfect day to celebrate her in a sustainable way that suited us 💚 we did also have a family celebration the next day and she got some lovely gifts 🎁

All the fun - less of the stress, waste and clutter 🫶🏻

Let me deinfluence your baby’s first birthday gifts 🎁…

We gave our daughter five gifts for her first birthday and only bought one of them brand new. 💫

This wasn’t because we didn’t want to buy her presents, but we knew her family were getting gifts and we’re all putting money together to buy a wendyhouse for the garden, so wanted to keep gifts from us minimal. 🏡🪴

Now, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t question whether I was doing enough. But watching her sister open her presents (of course) and seeing her more interested in the wrapping paper then crawling off after the first couple, I knew my worries were unfounded and she was happy. 🫶🏻

As for the old remote, we didn’t actually wrap this up, but it was a recent suggestion from my husband to give to her in an attempt to stop her getting her hands on the real one and she loves it! 😂🙌🏻

I know she isn’t going to look back at photos and think how few gifts she got. She’s going to look back and see how loved and special she is to our family. 🩷

So I’d encourage you to do what is right for your family and your baby - not what you think you should do because you’ve seen it on social media 🫶🏻💚

💫 Homemade one birthday banner 💫

This time I decided not to buy second hand on Vinted, because most of the banners were from Shein. I have never bought from them and I don’t intend to. ❌

So, I thought I’d have a go at making my own. 🫶🏻

As someone who struggles with any form of creativity, I’m always nervous to try these things in case they just look rubbish. But I’m actually really pleased with how it turned out and maybe most importantly, I enjoyed making it, especially as I used things I already had at home 🫶🏻♻️

We’re having a few low key celebrations for our baby’s 1st birthday, so this will get a good few uses before probably being passed on, or recycled and the ribbon kept for another craft. 🫶🏻 🎀

A low waste picnic for an outdoor cinema family day 🧺 🎥 🫶🏻

Living low waste doesn’t have to be boring or hard work, yes it requires a little bit more thought, but nothing that feels like a huge effort. 💫

A simple picnic with some sandwiches, snacks, fruit and treats, with party kit plates in tow 🍽️

The only waste we had to bring home was a small bit of food waste and soft plastics. No need to use the bins at the event and not a bit of clingfilm or a baby wipe in sight 💚

Small actions, choosing to reuse wherever possible, and it all makes a difference 🌎

April was a busy month so I had put my stock away after cleaning it and needed a little reorganise 🫶🏻

Today was a new one for me, going along to a business networking event as a small business owner - I am still not convinced I should be putting myself in that bracket! 🙃

It was wonderful to see some familiar faces, all of whom I have met on here and connected with in person 💚 and to meet some new people too .matesclub 🩷

I have been having some doubts recently about whether running a party kit is what I should be doing and if it’s worthwhile, so this event came at the right time for me, combined with my daughter making me this note yesterday after I showed her my new business cards - it reminded me it IS worth it. She said I am working hard and trying my best 🥹💕

So if believing in something, giving it a go and making a small difference shows my girls they can do the same, then I’ll keep going. 🫶🏻

Thank you for a fab morning, loved hearing talk about the power of using adrenaline and encouraging us to “just do it anyway”! 🙌🏻

Is it just me or does the wooden cutlery give you a bit of the ick?! 😑

We’re heading into bbq & picnic season and there’s no need to buy the wooden cutlery (which although not plastic, is still disposable), when you can hire enough reusable knives, forks & spoons for 30 people for just £4 with your party kit! 🥳🍴

The power of community 💫

Joining the members call last weekend not only allowed me to speak to other kit owners to share experiences and tips, but it also helped rehome some spare kit and now I can provide pastel plates for up to 60 people!

So if you’ve got a whole class party for 30 children, I can now offer you 30 more plates for parents too 🙌🏻💚

Updated price list coming soon, and I can promise you it’s cheaper than buying the equivalent of disposables! 👛
