Introducing Our New Mains-Powered LED Moth Traps

We’re excited to introduce our new range of mains-powered LED moth traps, which have been extensively field-tested in the UK, Madeira and Italy since last year.

The results have been extremely encouraging, with catches comparable to, and in some cases higher than those achieved with traditional 20W actinic traps. Comparison graphs are available on our website.

A battery-operated LED version is also in development and is currently undergoing field testing.

We’re constantly working behind the scenes to test, refine and develop new products, and we’re particularly excited about this new range. We can’t wait to see what you think!

A MOTHING PHENOMENON

We have been running moth traps for nearly 40 years and ALS for almost 30, but this morning we witnessed something we have never seen before.

An estimated 1,600 Beet Moths (Scrobipalpa ocellatella) came to the moth trap last night. This tiny Gelechid moth wasn’t even known in Norfolk until 2019 and can be a pest of sugar beet.

As we opened the trap and began working through the catch, clouds of Beet Moths lifted into the air. Almost immediately, around 20 Swallows began feeding on them, flying low over our heads. It was quite amazing to hear the sharp “snap” of their bills as they picked the moths from the air.

The Beet Moth is a difficult species to photograph with an iPhone, but one of our favourites was this individual hitching a ride on a Harlequin Ladybird!

A remarkable morning — and certainly one we won’t forget.

What a great birthday present! Thank you for the photos Margaret

Margaret says “Delighted to say that the moth trap arrived early. The birthday boy is very happy and has spent all morning identifying last night’s catch. It’s not been too hot here in Durham in the north east. There were 70 moths in the trap this morning.”

The Skoros moth trap is becoming a super favourite moth trap and are now selling as much as our other bestselling moth traps.

We have been using it for the past few days and despite moth numbers taking a huge drop from what they were some weeks back, we have been getting between 50 and 80 moths per night to 20w actinic. Here is a selection of some.

Our Skoros moth trap is getting very popular. Thanks so much to Amanda Boxall (West Sussex) who says:

I recently bought this moth trap kit from you and as a complete beginner, am now totally hooked on moth trapping! I’ve recorded 39 species in my small West Sussex garden……I thought I’d share some of my favourite ones! The Elephant Hawk-moth was my ‘most desired’ catch and I trapped two on my second outing and a total of five so far!! Very pleased indeed with my trap.
