My new book is now available on ebay, Amazon or through my website www.theicenian.com

It tells the story of The Movie Shop and many of the other collectors shops that I knew from the end of the war, and is a companion volume to 'Continuous Performances' my story of Norwich cinemas from 1945 - 1961.

Jenny Hanley had more famous parents in Dinah Sheridan and Jimmy Hanley, but in a fairly brief and uneventful career, she managed to be in a Bond film and a Hammer 'Dracula' with Christopher Lee. She was a very ebuliant and cheerful lady when I met her, still attractive and with some salty stories about on set activities in the sixties and seventies. I couldn't resist the photo that I showed her, and she signed it with relish.

Beautiful Barbara Shelley had a fairly brief, but very successful, career in Hammer movies of the 1960's then turned to television. She was very proud of her Hammer days, and when I met her she was trying to sell the wig she wore in Dracula - the one in the photo. She tried to persuade me to buy it but I finally passed on the deal - I wish now I had taken her up on her offer.

Muriel Pavlow was a major stage actress who came to the front in British films of the fifties. In later years she was always very happy to meet fans for private film events, and when I met her she was always very friendly and gracious. A lovely lady, like many other second featured actors, often overlooked as secondary figures in the public eye, but who knew the business as well as any of the major stars.

Helen Fraser was never a star, but always top value on stage, screen and TV. She was perfect as the hapless Barbara in 'Billy Liar' which I was lucky enough to see on stage with Albert Finney, and then the movie version with the better cast Tom Courtney. She lives in Eye and often came in the shop lookingfor research material for parts she might be doing. She was always very friendly and happy to talk about her work.

Anne Aubrey was a minor actress in the early 1960's that I was completely smitten by - she appeared in a clutch of films with Anthony Newley, 'Jazzboat' and 'Idol On Parade', but had a rocky marriage to Derren Nesbitt and soon left the business. Not forgotten by me though, and when she moved to Wroxham I got this much treasured signed photo.

The barren shelves, the darkened room,

An empty shell.
The staircase leads to yet more gloom,
A place where fading memories dwell.
Where once was laughter, talk and jest,
Now, old friendships, are laid to rest,
