It is amazing to be able to share a few words of wisdom from my own gardening journey and the experience acquired with mini green fingers 💚 and getting this amazing magazine to share it with their social media followers!
Happy Saturday,
How's your garden looking?
Ours is very wild, which is how I love it. There's plenty of nettles and the elder's just come into bud.
Sometimes a garden can feel like a mammoth project, especially if you've little kids too.
We asked Gigi Møller, mum of two and founder of for some ideas to inspire and help us.
"Here are my 3 suggestions to get started gardening with kids," she says.
🌿START SMALL:
"Start with small easy educational projects that allow your child to understand how a seed or bulb turns into a plant. You can do this by growing them outside of the soil e.g., on a piece of wet paper cloth inside a closed container. You can even try to get the seeds directly from what you are eating (organic peppers, tomatoes, pumpkins and dried peas all work really well for this) so that the link between plants and food is established at an early stage.
🌿TAKE THEIR LEAD:
As my kids grow older, I have found that it is important to give them more independence to keep them engaged and interested. Giving them responsibility for their own part of the garden or balcony or letting them decide what is grown based on what they like to see, eat and touch, can really help with this. Once the plans are in place, having a simple list of jobs for them to do can empower them and give them even more independence.
🌿LEARN TOGETHER:
Be prepared for things to go wrong! Some seeds won’t sprout, small delicate plants will sometimes snap when handled by children (or adults, oops!!), you might put things out too early or water them too much/too little. This is all normal. These experiences give you and your mini gardener opportunities to grow your gardening knowledge together."
