Ghostbusters is a 1984 American supernatural comedy film directed by Ivan Reitman and written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. It stars Bill Murray, Aykroyd, and Ramis as Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, and Egon Spengler, three eccentric parapsychologists who start a ghost-catching business in New York City. It also stars Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis, and features Annie Potts, Ernie Hudson, and William Atherton in supporting roles.

Based on his fascination with spirituality, Aykroyd conceived Ghostbusters as a project starring himself and John Belushi, in which they would venture through time and space battling supernatural threats. Following Belushi’s death in 1982, and with Aykroyd’s concept deemed financially impractical, Ramis was hired to help rewrite the script to set it in New York City and make it more realistic. It was the first comedy film to employ expensive special effects, and Columbia Pictures, concerned about its relatively high $25–30 million budget, had little faith in its box office potential. Filming took place from October 1983 to January 1984, in New York City and Los Angeles. Due to competition for special effects studios among various films in development at the time, Richard Edlund used part of the budget to found Boss Film Studios, which employed a combination of practical effects, miniatures, and puppets to deliver the ghoulish visuals.

Now on sale CORGI Die-Cast Vanguard VA13320 Ford Capri Mk1, Glacier Blue Model Car. This 1:43 scale model WAS £32.95 – NOW £24.95.

The Capri modelled was registered in Northwest London on August 1st, 1971, the first day of the K registration suffix. It was ordered by a lady who specified the unusual colour scheme of Glacier Blue with Marquis upholstery, which Ford only offered for one year.

She also ordered the GT and XLR option packs, the second of which included the matt black bonnet, spot lamps and Rostyle wheels. The lady obviously loved the car and its characterful 1599cc Kent Crossflow, a power unit shared with contemporary Es**rt Mexicos, as she kept it until 1993. After the first owner sold it, the car was resprayed Ford Pacific blue, then traded into London-based Curry Motors, in 1998.

The current and fourth owner, Berkshire-based Capri enthusiast Nick Campbell, spotted it advertised in High Wycombe as a restoration project in 2004. He paid £400 for it that day because his first Capri had been in this specification. Family commitments delayed the restoration until 2009, but by then he’d acquired the parts and the space needed.

He stripped the bodyshell and was pleased to find it needed comparatively little metalwork. Over the next six years, he totally restored the car to its original colour and specification, making some subtle improvements to the brakes and suspension as he was rebuilding it, and had it painted to a high standard.

It was returned to the road in 2016 and featured in Retro Ford magazine in 2017.

We’re recreated this restored car in 1:43 die-cast metal, making it an elite addition to your Vanguards collection.

Donald Kingaby was a Royal Air Force fighter pilot who flew Supermarine Spitfires with 92 Squadron from RAF Biggin Hill during the Battle of Britain. An experienced and skilled pilot, he took part in air defence missions intercepting German bombers and fighters over southern England. Kingaby was credited with multiple aerial victories and became one of the notable aces of the campaign. Flying from Biggin Hill, 92 Squadron played a key role in defending London and surrounding areas. Kingaby's service reflected the determination and effectiveness of RAF Fighter Command during a critical period of the war.

Supermarine Spitfire Mk V

Designed by R.J.Michell to meet a British Air Ministry specification, the Supermarine Spitfire first flown on March 5th, 1936. With its combination of beautiful fighter design, the excellent performance of its Rolls-Royce Merlin powerplant and firepower provided by twin cannons and four machine guns, the Spitfire became an unrivaled symbol of victory. The Spitfire had 40 major variants and was built in greater numbers than any other British aircraft of the time. It flew operationally on every front between 1939 and 1945 and was engaged in every one of the Royal Air Force's major actions.

The first four films focused on illegal street racing, culminating in Fast & Furious (2009). The series moved towards heists and espionage with Fast Five (2011), which was followed by five further films in that genre. An eleventh and final film, Fast Forever, is set to be released in 2028.

History

Originally registered on 29th November 1990 as a Vauxhall Fleet Management car in Luton, Bedfordshire, this GTE 16V was finished in the uncommon Rembrandt Silver. The car featured GM’s futuristic Liquid Crystal Display dashboard, allowing drivers to watch the revs climb on its magnificent 2-litre DOHC 16-valve ‘red top’ engine, a characterful, rev-hungry unit that gave the GTE its appealingly raucous personality. After serving owners across Kent, Dorset, County Durham and Bedfordshire, the car found its way to Lee Proctor, a former Vauxhall employee and bodyshop proprietor, in March 2013. Despite covering 125,000 miles and arriving in poor condition, Lee embarked on an ambitious three-year nut-and-bolt restoration to concours standard, using as many new old stock original parts as possible. The rebuild returned the car to original specification, with the addition of a retrimmed Astra Champion leather interior. In November 2020, the beautifully restored GTE found a new home with Derbyshire enthusiast Clive Emery, a Mk2 Astra Owners Club member, who has added original equipment finishing touches and regularly takes the car to classic events.

In 1941, RAF 611 Squadron operated Supermarine Spitfire fighters from RAF Hornchurch during the Battle of Britain period and subsequent offensive operations over occupied Europe. One of its most famous pilots was Flight Lieutenant Eric Lock, a leading RAF fighter ace credited with numerous victories against German aircraft. Flying the Spitfire, Lock took part in interception, patrol, and fighter sweep missions. His aggressive flying style and skill made him one of the top scoring pilots of the time. Lock was reported missing in September 1941, but his legacy remained closely tied to 611 Squadron and its wartime achievements.
