How was your weekend?
Did you get the rest you needed? And if so… what kind of rest was it?
Interestingly, even though drawing is my day job, it’s also one of my favourite ways to switch off.
The key is less about what I do and more about how I use it.
Instead of thinking too hard or creating for others, I’ll sit down (with a nice coffee) and take my time to do simple character studies or just make marks on a page - something that lets me relax into an activity that I love, without the pressure of pushing towards a finished piece.
It may be difficult to differentiate from the outside world but I’m making a clear shift out of work and into play!
In this mornings Cole Collective call, lead us through the 7 types of rest as they are defined by Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith and this stuff is fascinating. I’ll let the recording do the talking here...
..Not all rest is created equal, and sometimes, what we think of as rest doesn’t actually refill the tank in the way we need.
So, to ask you in true Mike Cole coaching fashion - do you feel like you got the kind of rest you really needed this weekend? How would you rate it and what would you change to get more of the rest you need?
