Audrey Hepburn was a teenager around Arnhem and Velp during WW2, ironically moved from the UK to somewhere safer, which was not to be. She performed ballet at secret fundraisers for the resistance and whatever deeds a "non threatening little girl" could get away with, slipping under the radar of the occupiers.

In one story, she is delivering some papers to a downed pilot, but on the way spots a Dutch N**i police officer, so begins picking nearby wildflowers. Once he comes over, she offers him some, innocently. I think I've resonated with the resistance stories so much is the ability to turn something frustrating and wrong (being overlooked and underestimated) into a superpower.

After the Battle of Arnhem, she was left in Velp with the remainder of the citizens who couldn't evacuate, with the two major threats of German boots on the ground and Allied bombing from the skies. Working under Dr. Hendrik Visser ’t Hooft she helped at the medical stations running whatever errands were required, all while suffering from the weakness from starvation that was affecting the area.

As with all of our minis in this Resistance project, Audrey is one of many civilians who risked or lost their lives helping others to survive. The hope is that by shining these lights on just some of them, we can appreciate the many many more that went unrecorded. The civilian resistance also grabs me because it's very every day people dragged into action and becoming extraordinary.

The KS goes live 21st October, twenty brand new minis of folk from the Dutch Resistance, including wee Audrey Hepburn.

This photograph was developed from a camera found on a captured luftwaffe pilot in WW2. None of the rest of his crew were ever found, and he refused to say a word about the matter. Scientists and researchers found it to be most peculiar.

Some said "Why is master of ghoul sculpting, Paul Muller, making creatures tearing apart planes?" And others answered that ghouls aren't just for fantasy settings, in fact every single setting ever can feature ghouls.

Others asked if there were ghouls in the Bad Squiddo range - single piece metal castings of sculpts by Paul Muller - and discovered almost THIRTY!

Who knew.

As the parachutes filled the sky on 17th September 1944, Kate ter Horst could not have foreseen how her life would change. The allied troops quickly turned her home in Oosterbeek into a Regimental Aid Post, where she helped wherever she could, as well as looking after her own five children, stashed in the cellar. Kate became known as The Angel of Arnhem. As well as her practical help, her calming presence around the troops helped mentally and she kept many of these friendships after the war.

We've made this figure of Kate ter Horst, shes not been display painted yet but I wanted to show her off - shes currently just drybrushed metal which doesn't do the best justice, but hopefully you can see how lovely the mini is. She's carrying one of her kids around whilst looking with her torch for.... who knows! A fresh water source, a weird noise, an unwell soldier, or maybe even a lost teddy.

Shes in a Sarissa Precision Limited building built and decorated by F4freddieterrafirma with some Bad Squiddo scatter scenics there. The mini is sculpted by Alan Marsh and available in our Heroes of the Dutch Resistance, out next month.

What is SPRUcon? On 26th September, The Albert Hall in Nottingham will be spilling at the seams with indie sculptors, writers, designers and more. A unique event, this really showcases the people behind the minis and games, gives you loads of time to chat, play, sculpt, kitbash, learn and generally hang out with interesting people.

It's entirely independently organised and I am hyped to have a table there. All the tables are the same size so that it can't be dominated by the big bois, and you get to see creators you've never seen before.

With the spirit of the event, I won't be taking the racks, the one table fits my four cabinets where I'd like to just have a chance to chat about the range of miniatures that we make, and about the process, and answer any questions. There will be a TINY amount of things to buy, but if you want anything specifically, please choose "collect at SPRUcon" via the website (which would be awesome actually!)

I'm aware that Bad Squiddo Games straddles between super serious historical and freaking weird horror and fantasy, and sometimes worry I'm too freaky for the history crowd and too history for the freaky crowd, so it'll be nice to show it all! I'm multi faceted! I swear!

News time! To make the Heroes of the Dutch Resistance project as good as it can be, I'm pushing the date back by a month. With the relocation, the original launch date crept up, and I don't want to juggle both and do an ok job at both.

I want to rock them both! There's so many plans for mini educational who's who's with the painted minis and dioramas and with KS now you can't wing it as you go along, it's all about the build up.

The amount of work I've put into this project is immense and I want to give it justice, and give the people we've made little sculpts of justice too.

I'll be typing up in my own words a bit about everyone, and hopefully tying that in with some videos too featuring photos and minis. See in comments where you can sign up and I'll be updating very soon. Now the move is done I have more brain to really make this special.

Here's Violette Cornelius, she was a photographer before, during and after the war. As well as working with resistance groups to forge documents, she uses her photography skills (with the beautiful Rolleiflex) to take photos for the documents, as well as recording the resistance activities of her friends, and later part of the secret group of photographers collecting evidence of the atrocities.

We're done! The office is now emptied of all stock, as we move into the next phase of Bad Squiddo! Webshop and retail fulfillment will now be from our partners in Birmingham, and I'm staying at HQ in Nottingham to work on everything else.

Its been a tense week getting everything together, and super emotional. It's a huge step.

But now the load is lightened, I feel extremely excited, hopeful and almost fresh about Bad Squiddo Games. With that part of the business in someone else's hands, I can crack on with minis design, promotion and a whole heap of things. I might even get a life!* (*woah now)

The office feels EMPTY but it won't be for long! I get to spread out a bit and work on [the next secret things] without pegs and boxes and foams everywhere. It's now more studio than warehouse.

I'll still be trading at tradeshows, and you'll be seeing me a lot more online! The shop is open and you can order away (please do!), we don't officially start shipping again til the 21st but it helps a lot, and leaves a nice chunk for the new folk to get cracking into once all thats been set up.

I'm going to have a nice rest this evening, then tomorrow start figuring where furniture goes....

Then a KS or something. Dutch Resistance? Letsgoooo
