I couldn’t leave Mexico Week without having a go myself… 😂

If I’d been standing in the Mokshatrim haberdashery faced with that folkloric top, what would the Trim Queen have reached for? 👑

Well, after a good rummage through my own textile treasure trove, I’ve come up with three rather different answers.

Would any of them have survived Patrick and Esme?

Possibly.

Would Esme have had WORDS about my corners and straightness?

Absolutely. 😂

Sometimes a garment doesn’t need more.

It just needs that one ribbon, braid, appliqué or ridiculously fabulous bit of something that makes you go…

I nearly fell off the sofa watching Sewing Bee on Tuesday! 😂

As soon as Beth walked onto the screen, I had one of those “hang on a minute…” moments.

I was convinced she was wearing one of the ribbons from my own collection!

It turns out it wasn’t exactly the same ribbon… but it was incredibly similar. Close enough to make this trim lover do a double take! 👀🧵

It’s funny how watching Sewing Bee has changed over the years. Most people are admiring the garments… I’m zooming in on the ribbons and braids! 😄

Last night’s Mexico Week on Sewing Bee reminded me why I love textiles so much.

Not because they’re always rare.

But because they carry stories.

Watching the folkloric tops, I found myself doing what I always do… looking past the garment and noticing the ribbons, braids and embroidery. 🧵

Last night’s Bee celebrated Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

It reminded me why I love hunting for vintage and deadstock trims.

There’s something rather magical about finding beautiful materials that have already stood the test of time and giving them a chance to become part of someone else’s project.

Treasure doesn’t always have to be buried.

Sometimes it’s simply waiting for someone to notice it.

✨ Tomorrow’s Great British Sewing Bee theme is Reduce, Reuse, Recycle… and it got me thinking.

Some of the most beautiful trims don’t need to be made at all.

Many of the treasures you’ll find at Mokshatrim are vintage, deadstock or limited edition. They already exist, they’re just waiting to become part of someone’s next project.

A forgotten jacket.
A handmade bag.
A theatre costume.
A memory quilt.
A special occasion outfit.

Sometimes, transforming something you already own starts with just one beautiful trim.

Well… this took FAR longer than I expected. 😂✂️

I’ve spent the last few days turning this year’s Great British Sewing Bee contestants into paper dolls… and I regret absolutely nothing! (They may be winging their way to each contestant soon).

A few thoughts after finally finishing them…

💛 Tim had me at the banana fabric. A man who clearly doesn’t take himself too seriously is always going to win me over.

🧵 I absolutely LOVED making the contestants the models. It tells us so much about who they are, how they dress, what they like, and even the fitting challenges they face. I’d love to see more of that throughout the series.

🌺 Heather’s catwalk dress? Gorgeous.

❤️ Minnie’s red dress? Just perfect for her.

💚 Anna has such a distinctive sense of style. I have a feeling she’s going to produce some incredible makes this series.

👜 Sam’s bag deserved more love. Such a clever piece of sewing.

👗 Garment of the Week? Chef’s kiss.

One tiny plea…

Can we PLEASE stop showing the finished garments in the opening titles and next week’s preview? 😆 I spend half the programme looking away because I don’t want spoilers!

The Great British Sewing Bee is back tonight and I am READY.

The transformations. The panic sewing. The questionable fabric choices. Patrick quietly looking concerned. 😂

But, obviously, there’s one thing I’m particularly excited about…

WHO ELSE CAN’T WAIT TO SEE THIS YEAR’S HABERDASHERY?! 👀
