Rant alert! Look at this mess!!!
We are a bit fed up of the way the pavement has been butchered next to our shop on South Street in Oakham. It's been a trip hazard and an eyesore for about 6 months and although it's been reported to Rutland County Council a number of times, it just isn't getting fixed.
We have seen trade in our Oakham shop drastically decrease this year and whilst we are aware of the political/economic situation, having the pavement in this state for 6 months has not helped one bit. As already announced, we are closing the shop at the end of July, but PLEASE can someone sort out this out for the sake of our rapidly diminishing town centre.
At least two utility companies dug up this entire pavement in Jan/Feb and at one point the pavement was a massive hole which was fenced off for about 5 weeks with pedestrians having to walk on the road to get from Gaol Street onto South Street.
When the hole was filled it took another 2 months for the paving cobbles to be put back. However, they were not put back properly and as a result there are raised manholes/covers which are a trip hazard. This was reported about 6 weeks ago, and the orange barriers reappeared but no one has been to fix the problem. The pavement is still a trip hazard and the barriers are an eye sore.
Rant over!
