It's always a pleasure to customise scratchplates, and with a new workshop up and running we've been able to put our hands to a few over the past couple of months.
The JET Guitars bass was purchased alongside an aftermarket scratchplate commission in Chiyogami - Aqua Cherry Blossom handprinted paper from Shepherds Bookbinders. (The "silvered" effect was unplanned in this case, but Ming thinks she has finally cracked some of the secrets of that alchemical transformation!)
The black Squier Strat is Alan's own; the scratchplate is covered in Wonderland paper by , also available through Shepherd's.
And we've ended up working with an altogether different material through a special commission for a bespoke pickguard and truss rod cover for a Gibson SG, whose owner asked for them to be finished in abalone (mother-of-pearl). Leicestershire Luthiers provided the covers, and we sourced the sheets of NZ abalone from Eaton's Seashells Ltd. (Due to the sheet sizing, brittle nature, and sheer bling of this material we'd recommend it for small jobs only.)
