Curtains with a frill! These are blackout lined (not interlined), lots of volume in the frill and the customer was right to have them breaking on the floor as it anchors them. This is one lucky girl’s bedroom! Gorgeous and colour rich GP&J Baker fabric on the window seats, piped in black and white stripes. A perfect spot for reading or just hanging out. Some black and white stripe cushions with more frills are being made for the bed.

Hello! A shout out for our preloved curtains! The nights are drawing in and we’ve had a number of sales this month. The benefit of preloved? No waiting list, cheaper than making from scratch and a more environmental option. Win, win, win. (We are still here for your made-to-measure though! And why not choose fabric for your blinds, cushions and shades from our roll ends?) curtains

I’m on a one woman mission to change plain shades… one frame at a time.

A couple of lampshades made in the studio. These are the original frames which had worn paper shades. The original panels were carefully removed and templated and now the plain paper beige shades are this beautiful Linwood linen. Is it time to update your shades?

Yes… reupholstery can cost as much as buying new, but let’s delve into ‘new’. I’ve noticed a decline in the quality of high street sofas and armchairs in recent years. This is understandable in a competitive market with rising costs of raw materials. You get what you pay for has never been more true. You can pay £400 for a sofa or £4,000+. A cheap sofa will be made of chipboard and will be creaking with flat inners in a few years. That’s what you pay for. If the bones of your furniture are good and you have a solid wood frame then reupholstering is a great option for you and the best thing, once reupholstered, it looks like it’s brand new anyway. The suite photographed here has had a couple of decades of being very comfortable and is not ready to retire. We gave it a more modern look by removing the skirt and revealing the lovely legs (regretting not choosing ‘Bucks Fizz’ for my accompanying music!) There are more positives for reupholstering - you’ve not added to landfill. Where do all the cheap sofas go to die? And you have a wealth of fabric choices (not just the swatches the high street retailers have chosen for you). That means you don’t have the same as Dave and Sue down the road. Love your sofa but want a refresh? Book an appointment at The King’s Cupboard and let’s look at the possibilities. Fabric chosen Stressa

👋Hello! Another busy week at The King’s Cupboard and I’m grateful to have more hands on deck as we start what I’ve always termed the ‘silly season’. We’ve been pretty productive and the best thing about working as a team is we can share our knowledge and work together to improve and learn new skills. All sorts of projects have left the studio this week: readjusted curtains, mended blinds, tablecloths, new roman blinds, made-to-measure curtains, lamp shades, cushions and voiles to name just some. Popped these interlined double pinch pleat curtains up locally yesterday. Fabric from The Pure Edit, bronze coloured poles from Hallis Hudson - lovely with these curtains as the colouring has red tones. Some customer appointments this morning, more quotes to complete, supplies to order, a spot of sewing, then needles down until Monday.

Another pair of interlined double pinch pleats curtains up and dressed and a perfect to the floor finish. A simple yet considered look with a contrast green leading edge to complement the green headboard in this room.

There are some weeks when I feel like I’m going backwards, wasting too much precious time rectifying problems, looking for solutions and human malfunctioning!!! On weeks like these progress feels slow… so every job completed is a little win! 🙌

Take a look at these stunning curtains fitted last week in a beautiful barn conversion with trim from and a ticking stripe lining fabric to complete the look. Needed the big ladders and Mr King’s Cupboard to help with these ones (just over 3.2m long!) 🙌👌👏
