Open 8 am - 5.30 pm Monday to Saturday, 9 am - 5 pm Sundays (incl browsing) and Bank Holidays Set in a beautiful rural location, just 4 miles from the pretty market town of Oakham in Rutland, we have everything you need for the perfect day out. Built within an original 1818 Victorian walled garden, the nursery was founded by Fred and Ivy Gates when they created a market garden back in 1948. Still

very much a family business today, we are proud to say that many of the traditional values the business was built upon are just as important to us today. Covering over 12,000 square metres of indoor and outdoor displays and offering a wide choice of goods, ranging from indoor and outdoor plants, garden care and hardware, gifts, home ware, garden furniture and BBQs, clothing and much more besides, why not pay us a visit and experience the charm of Gates Garden Centre for yourself? There's also a large Farm Shop, Garden Restaurant, Courtyard Coffee Shop, outdoor childrens play area and a dog walking field to complete your visit.

🌾 Late summer at Gates Farm. The farming team recently finished harvesting and baling oat straw in the fields around the garden centre. The straw bales are then stacked in our barn to be used as bedding and winter feed for our herd of British Shorthorn cattle when they come back into the barn after grazing the nearby fields over the summer months.

Just a few more days until the 2026 Rutland Flower Show!

The Rutland Flower Show will be brimming with inspiration and entertainment - from floral and produce competitions to garden and plant shopping, celebrity gardeners, arts and crafts, plus fun for families and children.

We can’t wait to share our show garden design with all of you. Pop into our marquee to discover beautiful plants to bring home to your own garden, including our favourite varieties of David Austin Roses! We’ll also have spring flowering bulbs, garden tools, and so much more.

The show runs 14 to 16 August, so grab your tickets (if you haven’t already) and come say hello!

Win tickets to the 2026 Rutland Flower Show!

Gates Garden Centre is proud to sponsor the Rutland Flower Show, a 3 day Flower and Garden Show at the Rutland Showground that will encompass garden and plant shopping, talks by celebrity gardeners, arts and crafts, and family and children’s activities. We’re looking forward to sharing our very own show garden, and we’ll also have plenty of plants and garden tools for sale at the show.

🎪 Weekend plans? Join Cirquoise in the big top at Gates Oakham for an unforgettable show filled with breathtaking acrobatics, stunning artistry, and awe-inspiring performances that will leave you on the edge of your seat!

🕰️ The all-human show is just over an hour in length with no interval. The big top opens 45 minutes prior to the performance, with seating allocated on a first come, first served basis.

✨ Performances run Tuesday to Sunday until 16 August 2026. Weekday tickets are just £9.99 and at the weekend it’s just £11.99 per person, with under 2s tree (the child must sit on a parent’s lap).
