Listen to the wonderful sound! - At least I love it and it happens during one of my favourite parts of making a violin.

I'll be at The Niel Gow Festival in Birnam Arts on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd March with some instruments on display. Looking forward to catching up with the other makers and many fiddle players.

Great news that Tim Kliphuis is on the line-up for the Shetland Folk Festival in May. Here he is having a shot on a commissioned violin that I completed back in August. My customer took it straight over to the Grappelli-Django Camp Summer School in the Netherlands.

Storm salvage from an unfortunate cherry tree which had been blown down in our neighbourhood a few weeks ago. In 2031 the wood should be seasoned enough for making some beautiful violins and violas.

I'll be with a stall at the Scots Fiddle Festival in Edinburgh on Sunday, November 16th. You are very welcome to try my most recent violin there. It's only a month old, but sounding great already! There will also be a 16" viola I completed earlier this year.

It has now been exactly 4 years since I got awarded a QEST Anthony and Elizabeth Mellows Charitable Settlement scholarship to fund one year of studying with master luthier Sheena Laurie, Luthier. After having finished my college course this one-to-one tuition in violin making and restoration helped me enormously to start up my own - now thriving - luthier's business.

One "by-product" of my lessons with Sheena was making my first cello, where the scholarship also funded excellent tone wood and other materials required. This cello has sold very quickly and last week I had it in my workshop for the yearly free-of-charge check-up and servicing.

I'm extremely grateful for the support by QEST and with this in mind I congratulate them to their 35th anniversary!

I'm going to be back with a stall at The Niel Gow Festival this weekend and hope to see you there.

If you'd like to try a 16" viola, my new one will be ready just in time. On the photos you can see it in the time machine I've built in our garage (some people call it UV-box). It's for tanning the wood and curing the varnish, which can be done in the sunlight, but that is much slower.

There will also be some of my violins to try.
