Look at these fabulous student pots from the last throwing course at Kigbeare Studios & Gallery It has been great to see everyone's styles and personalities emerging out of the clay over the last months!

If you'd like to to make your ideal coffee mug or breakfast bowl, Charlie Collier and I have got some new dates for eight week courses starting from September. Pots are fired to stoneware temperature so they are microwave and dishwasher safe.

Really pleased that this woodfired pancheon mixing bowl has found a new home. I don’t often throw in Doble’s, a stoneware clay which is mined from the St Agnes in Cornwall. The family-run pit had supplied the Leach Pottery with clay since the 1960s. We use it for most student classes at Kigbeare so it’s nice and convenient to be able to have a play and chuck any reclaim in the pug mill - a luxury I dream of one day having for my other clay bodies. As an unblended and unglazed clay body it can go a bit dark and metallic in the anagama firing but responds well to slips and glazes. I really like the contrast of the dark and light here where I’ve used a damp sponge to wipe the white shino glaze off the rim. Definitely going to be making more of these.

Working with time-honoured techniques, she explores texture, mark-making and colour through the reduction method. Inspired by water as both muse and metaphor, her work reflects both movement and stillness.

I’m glad I got to meet some of these other talented makers and see their work in person earlier in the season at Sarah James MBE Bovey Tracey. I’ve been enjoying reading about the wealth of places I’ve yet to explore in this county that I feel really lucky to call home ☀️

New moths this morning including a gorgeous stripy pink first Privet Hawk-moth for my Kigbeare record. This week a team of around fifty of the are firing the anagama kiln for their third annual firing with expert guidance from pyromasters and . The kiln is choc-a-block with a massive diversity of pots and sculptures and the team are working hard day and night firing through to the end of the weekend. I’m always in awe of the organisational skill and leadership it takes to pull together these firings with so many people successfully! Here’s and tending the firebox. Last moth is the appropriately named Flame Shoulder 🔥

Learn how to coil build your own personalised pottery mug with local Cornish clay! Mugs will be glazed and fired ready for collection.

You'll be guided through the simple coil-building technique to create your mug from scratch before decorating it with colourful brush-on underglazes in your own style.

After the workshop, your mug will be glazed and high-fired at Kigbeare Studios, making it durable, food-safe, dishwasher-safe and microwave-safe.

It will be ready to collect a few weeks later.

Thanks for all the love and support this last weekend at .co.uk South West Shaftesbury. I had a lot of fun catching up with old friends in the sunshine and meeting new ones❤️ I feel grateful that lots of these little porcelain mugs are being treasured in some new homes, and deeply inspired by all the beautiful things in clay.

I’ve got a few woodfired pieces available on my website in a new titanium slip I’m having a play with. I hadn’t tried out this recipe before so only put a handful of pieces with it on in our last woodfiring as tests. I love the warmth of this golden mustardy colour they came out though! Will definitely be using more of this in future.
