God I’m so happy to be back in work guys!! 😭🤍
Thank you to you all for being so patient with me whilst I had 2 weeks off recovering. I’m honestly so grateful for you all!! And everyone who donated - it’s covering my rent so honestly - thank you so so much, it means the world to me 🤍 it’s pulled so much stress off pushing myself back in earlier as I’d have 100% been trying to come into work last week 🤣 The finger is healing really well and I’m chuffed I can work as normal this week 🥹🙏🏽

Good news - finger is healing really well and after a little trial run, I’m back in work as normal tomorrow! 😭🙏🏽🪩💜

A week ago I never imagined I’d be having surgery on my hand following a dog bite at work!

I’ve shared this because if it makes even one groomer stop and think, then it’s worth it 🙏🏽🤍

The biggest lesson I’ve learned? If you have even the slightest concern that a dog may bite, muzzle them. Don’t worry about feeling guilty. Don’t worry about what people think. We spend so much time advocating for dogs that sometimes we forget to advocate for ourselves too. Our jobs are a risky one and this is a reminder that it can turn - very quickly!

My second lesson is to check your insurance policies carefully. I thought I was covered for being unable to work following an injury, but I wasn’t. As a self-employed groomer, that’s been a scary reality check.

This has been a huge learning curve for me and one I’ll be taking forward into every groom from now on.

I’m sharing this for my best friend Briony, who recently suffered a serious dog bite injury to her finger while grooming one of her clients.

As she’s self-employed, being unable to work means no income, and she’s been advised to take time off to heal properly and avoid the risk of infection. Anyone who knows Briony knows she’ll be desperate to get back to work, but right now she needs time to recover without the added stress of worrying about bills.

A little life update I never expected to be writing…

On Tuesday I suffered a serious dog bite while grooming and have ended up with a shattered finger bone, a badly damaged nail bed, and had to undergo plastic surgery today.

As many of you know, Sidney & Sapphire is just me, so unfortunately this means I’ll be off work for a little bit and losing a significant amount of income while I recover.

It’s also been a huge wake-up call. I’ve always happily worked with nervous and reactive dogs, but this has reminded me that no matter how experienced we are, dogs are still animals and can react when they’re scared, stressed or uncomfortable. Looking back, there are definitely things I’d do differently, and if this makes another groomer think twice about muzzling a reactive dog and protecting their own safety, then something positive has come from it.

I’m absolutely gutted to be rearranging appointments, but right now my focus has to be healing properly and I’m hoping to back to all your lovely doggies asap! 🐾
