📕 Famous within academic circles, author, Dr Barrie Trinder has graced The Snug Bookshop with a copy of his new book, "Seeking History: European Travels 1971-95.” £20.

Dr Barrie Trinder has written historical studies that have proven popular both with the public and much acclaim in academic circles. He has written and edited several substantial works on his native
Banbury. His book, “The Industrial
Revolution in Shropshire”, published in 1973, remains in print and helped to establish the intellectual foundations of the Ironbridge Gorge Museum.

Dr Trinder’s major work, "Britain’s Industrial Revolution:The Making of a Manufacturing People," published in 2013, and was widely acclaimed.

Dr Trinder edited the Blackwell
Encyclopaedia of Industrial
Archaeology(1992), the first international review of the discipline and working with twenty internationally based academics.

Dr Trinder has written several hundred entries for the website of the European Route of Industrial Heritage and contributed substantially to the designation of three UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Britain. He has also been busy abroad and lectured in Europe, Japan, South Africa and America.

♥️ Now in his eighties, we are blessed in Olney to have Dr Barrie Trinder living among us.

📕 Big reader, young Jess, age 20 from Uni of South Wales! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 is back for summer, waitressing in our Pancake Parlour …. & bringing me a HUGE chicken Caesar wrap, as I forgot my lunch 🤭

Thanks 👨‍🍳 Chef Jamie- this will keep me going through the day,bookclub tonight & tomorrow!

🤗 Jess & I are definitely going to get on …as within seconds …. literally seconds, we were racing through favourite book titles with Bank robberies and into favourite Bank robbery films !!🎥

💃🏼 It was like a virtual game of Snap!!

📚 Who doesn’t love the adventure & the pace, the rising tension that leads to a deliciously thrilling car chase….. which when combined with the taught-suspense of the actual theft, the safe-picking, the painstakingly arduous deception and planning .. all on a lush and luxury backdrop of the scene-setting!! Obviously, as women we mentioned the tasty lead men and the powerful female action heroes we enjoyed!!

🎥 Both Italian Job 🇮🇹 films (1969) Michael Caine, and (2003) Mark Wahlberg got the thumbs up!

🚤 For me, it’s the latter, as I love the opening safe-drop through the floors into the Venice waterway. The ensuing motorboat chase …. the depth of friendship bonds before the bitter betrayal!! Wow… !! Then let’s not forget stunning Venice, I’ve not been yet - but must go and then all the other fabulous locations in that film! Just love a great action film!

🧑‍✈️ RAF Tempsford- Special Operations Executive.

🕵️‍♀️Fabulous day hearing, reading and learning all about the infrastructure, the Lysander night flights by moon alone, the planes, the 📻 radio messaging, coding and the agents from Uk, France, Poland and many more who all dedicated themselves to the dangerous, and on a daily basis precarious life as an agent in occupied Europe in WW2.

♥️ My favourite chat was with Clive, who had been flying as a navigator in the huge Shackleton planes ✈️ spotting German U-boats! He is so very interesting and huggable 🤗

💃🏼 I am very excited to be supporting The Tempsford Museum Event in the Stuart Memorial Hall today, 10-5pm

🤗 I’ve many books of the true stories of the brave agents of the British Special Operations Executive. These are the men and women who were secretly selected and trained in hand-to-hand combat, intelligence and coding to undertake dangerous face to face missions, vital to the success of D-day and much more in WW2.

🕵️‍♂️ The SOE role was to undertake espionage, convey vital messages within and through the resistance pockets across Europe - often by bike 🚲 whilst deploying ongoing industrial sabotage to derail N**i plans . The agents were under constant threat from collaborators.

📕 The SOE objectives were to keep key information flowing back and forth to the British government. Undertake successive missions to destroy railways, bridges, ammunition centres and sending mixed messages into the German command.

🕵️‍♀️ Today, the Museum is commemorating the courage of all these men and women who put their country first in World War 2.

🏫 Now the museum has the planning permission they needed to extend, they are actively fundraising to build it.

📚 The Snug Bookshop is proud to support this fabulous museum that has been brought into being through the love and disciplined effort of Steve Cooney and his team of volunteers .

📚 I will be giving 20% of all sales and curating key books from the National Archives for the public to borrow from the museum in their new library .
