About the author
Hi everyone. My name is Melvyn Harlow and I love to write quirky books. I was until recently known as John Donkeyplonk, and using that pseudonym I self-published my first novel "Prepare for the Zargian Delegation!" And here’s my follow up, "A Stake in the Community." Both novels do what I like to do - to imagine a mundane situation and plonk something absurd slap bang in the middle of it.
"A Stake in the Community" is inspired by real life events where I live, in the Hillsborough area of Sheffield but embellished and made considerably more absurd. A tale of a man who can't work out whether he is a vampire or not, striving to find vampire love and also to lead his street in opposing a property development which will destroy the local bat colony. I researched it extensively with real vampires and I am really proud of it; Beta readers have given it rave reviews. So go on, take the plunge and buy it!
Apart from writing, I like to go walking in the Peak District, garden, and watch cricket in season. I have two sons, 35 and 31, and a step daughter of 21. I love Sheffield and have set this book entirely in this, my adopted city. I am currently working on a novel which is a parody of the self-helping industry. Hope to get it out in the autumn.
