Studio 67 have created a VIP section just for Ewe & Ply clientele, with a bespoke Gin Spin cocktail (you see what we did there?).

There is an entrance exam, to get in you must knit or hook 3 stitches. Just 3, but on our Very Special needles/hook.

The final installment of snapshots of what Ewe & Ply have been up to in the last Ten Years. We each have favourite episodes in history so we have shared them with each other and learnt each other's historical woolly ways! One of the many things we love about wool is how it brings us together, not just physically in the here and now but how the threads of time weave us together with wool workers of the past. Women have been fiddling with wool for millennia and it has been a vital source of financial stability in times where women have struggled to find autonomy. Denigrated in modern times as "women's work", this work kept everyone warm and was done in the midst of daily life whether in the precarious feudal times or during the Blitz. Wool has provided more than just physical comfort.
England's economy was built on the backs of sheep and we have found ourselves in two periods of history where wool has found fame. The High Middle Ages found England's wool trade at a peak and women were involved at all levels. The late 1930s and 1940s saw the flourishing of British knitting, we think literally holding us all together.

Local wool has been a huge part of what we have done over the last ten years. From breeding pedigree Shropshire sheep and being a part of increasing the national flock so that the breed changed from "rare" to "traditional", finding small local flocks with high welfare standards and excellent fleece to dyeing the wool ourselves, we have been part of the whole process. We've been run over by sheep, been startled by small ponies, seen the whole process of spinning our yarn in an eighteenth century hydroelectric mill, had picnics in graveyards while out fleece collecting, picked and grown plant materials for dyeing and knitted A Lot of Very Woolly Things.
We are the first to say that you wouldn't knit your knickers out of our wool. It is light, warm and fabulous to work with but it is robust and hard-wearing, stoical like the sheep. It will last.
We've kettle dyed it, hand painted it, dyed it with conventional dyes, medieval dyes and modern plant dyes.
Since we started who we send our fleece to has changed and we have very sadly seen the closure of New Lanark Spinning Mill. Our fleeces are now spun in Wales and we hope with your help to commission another spin. More about that another time.

Awards! We've won a few over the years. From "Best Stand at Show", to Yarn Industry, Knitting and Crochet (Best Independent in the West Midlands), Market Trader and Best Dressed Window.
I think we should also get a prize for "Best Value for Money" in the "Geek Explanation Awards". As many of you know ask us a question (put 50p in the Geek) and we'll be off, giving you probably far more information than you expected (or wanted!)
Some awards have been surprises and some we have worked hard for. But at the end of the day, our end goal has always been to promote and facilitate ethical wool/fibre fiddling in a safe and supportive environment so that when you leave our shop you feel a bit better than when you walked in.

How did this start? With Wonderful Wool Day around 2012! Before Facebook! You've seen our first little unit, since then we have been around and about! A larger unit in the Market Hall, "the big shop" in Oswestry with the tearoom, a small unit in the Parade and then our move up in the world to where we are now. In the meantime we have been up, down and across England at events from Devon up to Yorkshire, over to Bedford and Mold. We've done the Made in Shropshire markets, Wonder Wool Wales, Fibre East, Yarndale, The Wool Monty, the North Wales Yarn Gathering and many more!

Ten Years of Ewe & Ply. Don't forget our Birthday Party this Saturday 19th September!
We have had amazing fun, have the best customers and the best staff! From the Market Hall ( being equal there are terrible photos of both of us!), knitting competitions, a sponsored walk to a masked ball, it has been a busy ten years.

Apologies that we will be shut for a day just as Woolly Season is starting. This is due to an oversight on Teri's part and shortcomings on Becca's side. Teri managed to forget that Becca cannot be in two shops at once. Becca is unable to be in two shops at the same time (could try harder).
