Friday 15thMay
Did You Know This?:

A couple of weeks ago, we were over in Portugal and popped up to Óbidos for a little mooch around… by the way, if you haven’t been to Óbidos you should go!

Just outside the fortified gates to the old town, a group of men were handing out armfuls of a beautiful yellow-flowered shrub. The scent was incredible, pungent and sweet, almost like jasmine, and it filled the air.

Curiosity got the better of me, so I went over to find out more.

It turned out to be Portuguese broom, or giesta, a wild yellow flowering plant that is common in Portugal at this time of year. What followed was the most unexpected and beautiful story, one I think will stay with me for a long time.

On the night of 30th April into 1st May, there is a long-standing Portuguese tradition called As Maias. People place yellow flowers, often giesta, on doors, windows and balconies.

The meaning is simple, but deeply symbolic, to protect the home from bad spirits and misfortune, and to welcome in luck, light and the new season.

So, the men weren’t just handing out flowers. They were sharing a gesture of protection, renewal and hope.

I brought my gorgeous bunch of giesta home, gave some to each of our neighbours, and placed some on our door and put the rest in a vase.

Don’t you just love finding out something new, as they say, every day is a school day… although I wasn’t really a big fan of school!

Hope you have a beautiful weekend.

Tuesday 21st April.
Wedding Preparations Are Go:

Early evening sunlight in the studio,
I’m sat here with my new favourite mug filled with good old Yorkshire tea and nearly through my first roll of chicken wire.

Preparations are well underway for a beautiful wedding later this week.

The calm before the storm!

Saturday 18th April
Let’s Talk About the Bouquet:

Line, Form, and definitely not volume.
A move away from mass, towards structure, leaning into architecture, and editorial.
Fewer stems, more intention.

I could have stripped and curved the stems to force movement, but chose not to. Keeping that long, uninterrupted line felt more honest to the flower, letting the length, spacing and contrast do the work.

And when it’s carried, it changes completely.
As much about the back view as the front.
Almost a 3D form in motion.

Friday 17th April.
Creativity Unleashed:

This is what happens when you get full creative freedom.

Equatorial nostalgia, unfolding across three spaces, each with its own shift in mood.

At Islington Town Hall, everything was restrained.
Clean lines, soft light. Pristine Calla lilies kept sculptural and precise.
Black scabiosa and fine linear grasses breaking the form, just enough.

Up on the Rooftop at Boundary, the mood lifted.

Afternoon light, a champagne coupe tower, signature cocktails, the point where the day starts to loosen.

Then downstairs, the contrast.

An oasis of palms, layered monstera and orchids built for height, depth and atmosphere.
Elegant and Chic, beautifully controlled, immersive and intentional.

Running through it all, a single thread.

A bespoke monogram and sharply considered stationery, setting the tone from the outset and holding everything together.

From ceremony to rooftop to dancefloor, every part connected.

The most beautiful wedding from concept to delivery.

Tuesday 16th April
Brontë Country, Magic:

Sitting quietly on the other side of these trees, which incidentally also mark The Pennine Way, sits our lovely Crag Bottom Cottage, still waiting for someone to fall in love with it.

I really love this photo, it shows a side of this place you don’t always notice.

It’s just magical!

Wednesday 8th April.
What in the World:

I’ve had this tucked away in my bedside table for nearly 30 years.

Last night we watched the astronauts looking back at Earth from space, and then went to bed holding our breath, not knowing what might happen in Iran. I woke at 2am and checked my phone.

I don’t need to say much more than that.

This piece has stayed with me for decades because it says everything better than I ever could. It reminds us how small, precious and vulnerable this world is, and how easily people in power make us forget that.

If you love these words as much as I do, please share them. Save them. Come back to them.

A reminder of what we stand to lose, and how lucky we are to call this planet home.

Tea, Twine & The Times:

Tea going cold, twine unravelled, The Times somewhere underneath it all.

Moss, violas, and a quiet hour to make something… bank holiday done!

Tuesday 31st March
Country Retreat:

Back on the market.

Crag Bottom Cottage, looking out over Ponden Reservoir and into the landscape that inspired Brontë country.

It’s a place shaped by its surroundings, open skies, changing seasons, and that sense of being slightly removed from everything else.

For living, for escaping, or a bit of both.

Friday 9th January
Making the Most of it:

The tree might have come down, and all the fancy ornaments packed away, but the lights will most definitely stay.

There’s something about this time of year that feels ‘not quite right’ without the positivity and warmth that light brings. Dark mornings, long evenings, and the comfort of seeing a window still glowing from candles and strings of twinkling lights brings a certain comfort, don’t you think?

After all, we’ve got a bit to go in these dark winter months, and it’s important not to wish time away until the spring equinox arrives. Let’s just make the most of this quiet time!
