✨2023 ALL SEWN UP✨

We've just about made it to the end of this whirlwind year where my needle and thread has definitely kept me sane 🤪. I can't quite count up the number of projects I've started and finished in 2023, but I thought I'd put together a favourite for each of its twelve months. As you can see, I failed at that, but here's a slightly larger number of my favourite sews this year... Go ahead and like your favourite(s) 🥰

2023 has been a big skill building year. By the end of 2022 I'd only really sewn things on flat cotton, on bags, and pencil cases. This year I've cracked a load of other things, including some challenging sews on stretchy hoodies and t-shirts. I've worked a lot on my stitch technique (although much more of that to come next year) and pushed up the creativity and difficulty of the designs I've sewed, whether my own original work or making use of an existing pattern.

What I'm most pleased with this year has been how I've been able to use these skills to create so many things which are meaningful to others. I've been able to see a lot of my work out and about being enjoyed, used, and even worn (although I think my mum's still looking at her birthday hankies in the box 🙄). If you've bought or received an Ink & Thread original this year, don't forget I would absolutely love to see your own photos of it - and if you're feeling really generous, a review on here would also be an amazing New Year gift 😁

Have you got an idea which you think Ink & Thread could bring to life for you in 2024? After a solid six weeks of festive elf action hand sewing presents, I'm ready to take commissions again. I've also got a variety of stock - mainly tote bags and pencil cases - ready to go, and am already working on Christmas stock for 2024. Just send me a message... 🪡

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!🎄✨

I hope you've spent your day in a way that made you happy. I love this time of year!

After a LOT of sewing in the lead up to Christmas, I'm looking forward to relaxing over the next week, by doing more sewing 🫣

Featured here is the last Christmas gift I finished for 2023 - now with its recipient, so I can post it 😁

Some ink rather than thread to share today: I tried out personalising riding journals for one of my RDA classes this Christmas, complete with a pocket inside for stickers! For the young riders I coach I tend to follow the "give what you would've enjoyed receiving" rule. These seemed to go down well 😁

Three festive teatowels which will shortly be on their way to sunny Shropshire! A gift for my lovely great aunt, who is extremely unlikely to find them here and spoiler her Christmas present 😁

Which one is your favourite? For me it's the little birds...

When getting out my Christmas decorations I pulled this out... My first ever embroidery project. It's nearly two years old, started and finished between Christmas and New Year 2021. It was a ready made kit from Amazon and I learnt as I went - it's surprisingly accessible and cheap to get into! I didn't know anything about embroidery, although my mum taught me some basics for sewing when I was little. This one really wasn't bad, but you can also see it's a bit novice. I remember reindeer taking me forever. Even so, it's still hanging on my kitchen door right now😊

I thought embroidery would be a nice thing to do because it was creative and mindful, and crucially, would use both hands so I couldn't scroll on my phone. I've embroidered hundreds of things since this hoop, thousands upon thousands of stitches, and a whole gallery of different designs, original and otherwise. Not only have I been able to create some beautiful things for people in my life and even a few strangers, it's the only form of meditation that's ever worked on me!

I'm planning to post some of my favourite projects from 2023 over the holidays, but thought first it'd be nice to mark where I've come from. I'm totally self taught and still learning as I go, and I really do think anyone can have a crack at embroidery as a result - maybe I'll try sharing my skills with others in 2024. I won't be dwelling on the last too much though - I've still got something left to sew before Christmas!

Special totes for two amazing women! My Saturday co-coaches at RDA with their Ink & Thread Christmas presents 🥰🎄

If you ever receive any of my work as a gift (or if you ordered it for yourself!), don't forget I would always love to see your photos! I try to make things that are beautiful and useful and I just love seeing them out in the wild 🤩

I've been waiting to be able to share this one 🥰

This is the first time I've ever even tried to sew something that looks like a photo. A one of a kind horse in memory of a real one of a kind (in lots of strange ways 😝) horse - and also, I hope, a special birthday gift.

This took a LOT of work, even in the prep which is usually quite a quick stage for me, and I was nervous the whole time that it wouldn't look like the real thing! Once it was actually done, I couldn't stop looking at it. I think I'm going to try and do some more equine portraits in 2024...

Long time no see! It's the time of year where almost everything I'm making is a gift, so I'm not able to share too much. I'm not sure anyone will guess what these works in progress are or who they're for, though, so here's a little snapshot from my elf workshop...

I have some availability before Christmas for smaller custom projects, like personalised pencil cases or makeup bags. Just get in touch!
