Hello, I’m Jem! Thank you so much for being here as I start my exciting new venture 🥰
I thought I’d tell you a little bit about how The Wild Press came to be…
Flowers have always been a part of my life. My Nanna was a florist who also grew her own flowers and I would spend hours as a little girl watching her lovingly create the most intricate bouquets, each stem placed thoughtfully and with meticulous attention to detail.
My love of flowers has only grown over time and five years ago I started my own small scale flower farm. With a young baby in tow and working part time as a Nurse Practitioner it was harder than I imagined, having to cut the stems during the cool of the day meant being in the field at dawn. I would then sell them to florists or make up bouquets to place on my little roadside cart. I would be deadheading, sowing seeds, planting and watering late into the evening which meant my working days were often 16 hours or more.
I wanted to find a way to express my love of flowers, but in a slower and more mindful way, embracing the seasons and using nature as my inspiration.
I started to press the wildflowers that I came across when walking on Otmoor. I remember the first time I opened my press and the feeling of pure joy that washed over me. There they were; the most beautiful flowers preserved in all their natural loveliness. I then decided to press flowers from the garden too, trying to capture them as I’d found them, embracing their organic shapes and character. I wanted to share the beauty of these everlasting flowers so that other people could appreciate how wonderful they are too, and so The Wild Press was born ✨
