As the dark nights draw in, with the invitation to slow down, I remember the conflict I had being in full time retail this time of year. It was so out of sink with the natural flow of the seasons.
Christmas buying began in April, with pre orders of hand knits, and the bulk of the big Xmas orders went in at the end of Summer. The stress of cash flow and risk of how much stock to have was quite a learning in budgeting, intuition and trust.
Then going straight into preparing for the January sale and back at trade shows in mid Jan for the gift & homeware buying for Spring/Summer, Clothing having been done the summer before. Retail is a relentless cycle.
But come the last week before Christmas we entered this magical madness and in many ways I lived for that time of year. It was the crescendo of a year’s hard work, a celebration. As a team we’d be in a dizzy delerious state, wrapping gifts and navigating restocking in a busy shop.
As the years went by, I witnessed the gift buying getting later each year. Will they come? Are we done with Christmas? Yet the last week became bonkers. Indigo came into her own. So much laughter and mayhem, like we were all peaking together, ignited by the true spirit of Christmas. A warm glow emanated out of our little shop, spilling out onto the Cowley Road, bustling bodies inside and the windows steaming up.
So this year we’re back, to recreate a little Indigo merriment and last minute, or just the right time, Christmas shopping magic.
At our first Pop Up, I found the space in Hurst Street worked really well. It has more width and height than the shop, more space to move around, and we all love the backdrop of brickwork. I think we can co create a really magical festive vibe in there. And I’ve some of the team, Izza and Evie, joining me.

An inspiring day out with my sustainable fashion buddy . A visit to for their Material World festival - where fashion meets nature. Homed in the beautiful Temperate House
Fashion designers showing how nature can inspire the clothes we wear, how humans and nature can co-evolve together and how even clothing made from plant fabrics will end its life returning to the earth as nourishment for it
It was a haven for the senses. Still smiling just thinking about it
It’s on until 2 November - catch it if you can
Good to see your beautiful Threads of the Canopy and your work with
And a thank you to all the designers and dyers for your care for our planet and brilliant creativity .voncurry

THANK YOU
To those of you who came along, or cheered from afar
For helping spread the word - via your street WhatsApp’s groups etc
My heart has been aglow since. So very very touched by you all and your love for Indigo
It was hard work - 3 days to set up, buying started back in July, days and evenings spent pricing up in the week before. But was all so worth it
Setting up had its own magic..
There was just the right amount of stock to make the space feel like the shop and everything had its place. I found myself remembering the display in the shop and it was like the pieces were telling me where they belonged
There was the exact amount of hangers for the clothing (I’d got rid of a load as couldn’t store them) including a random number I pulled from my own wardrobe and a few spare that Amy had
And the smell…
So many of you walked in and said in delight how the smell of indigo had returned
It was all quite surreal
And wonderful
A special thanks to Jackie of for lending me display pieces and for sending folk my way, from your Pop Up at
The biggest thank you though goes to you, Amy. You came in as an angel this time last year offering to support me, when you were having a break in between projects. You’ve since birthed my now favourite Oxford offering and have opened your amazing space to Indigo. You’ve supported me all along the way. It’s been a pleasure to get to know you this last year and Oxford is lucky to have you. And I now see how hard you work to put your Pops Ups together. Big up to you !!
See you all in December !!

Moment of the day
The lady on the left ( brilliant mum of ) fell in love with this top and plays the game of going away to see if it was here when she returned. Sneakily trying to hide it, before leaving, with her granddaughters assistance
Deciding it was indeed hers, she returned. Only to find another women trying on ‘her’ top.
The look of horror. Disbelief. And to make it worse the other woman, Helen , claiming she was in love with said top. It has pockets…
What to do??
But watch and step back and let the cat fight begin…
It was brilliant magical comedy.
After a bit of a dance Helen, very graciously, insisted she take it and would delight in seeing it being worn around Oxford
Thank you ladies, that was gold ✨
