Hello everybody!
It's been a while, and many of you have been in touch to ask about Christmas now the shop is closed. It's early days but it looks like we have now found a lovely local firm who will be renting the premises from us soon (not a shop!). So work is underway to make this happen. So we won't be offering any Christmas boxes or meats this year direct.
We wanted to let you know where you can get the very best Christmas meats, from those that follow the same ethos of high quality & home grown, as we always had in the shop. Here are a few of our recommendations:
Turkey: Our two local poultry suppliers who, without fail, always produce the very highest quality, free range & home grown birds are Potash Farm Foods (Caroline & Jonathan Lear), near Tring and Starveall Turkeys in Stone.
Beef: There are few farm shops now that rear & sell only their own homegrown beef. Daniel & Steph Hares at Buckmoorend Farm Shop have a lovely farm shop near Wendover. Similar to us, a multi-generational farm with a suckler herd supplying the shop & a lovely outdoor cafe - situated perfectly for a winter stroll in the Chilterns.
For an new trip out, why not support an newly started farm shop, Green Farm Shop in Hethe, Bicester. Many of our shop fittings and equipment went to start up this new venture and we wish them the very best of luck this Christmas and onwards. Great farmers of beef, lamb & pigs, and a lovely family. Do pop in!
Hams & Sausages: It has to be Britwell Salome Farm Shop for all things pork! Our butchery pork was always from them - they outdoor rear their own pigs in the Watlington area. Their pork is, in our opinion, unrivalled & the very best of local.
Christmas cheeses: For all things dairy our 'go to' is always Laceys' Family Farm at Bolter End. Their Guernsey herd produces top quality milk which makes the best milk, cream & cheeses - and they supply many local artisanal produce & cafes. They have a Christmas event coming up, with Christmas trees, lots of local suppliers.
Veg: Rectory Farm PYO potatoes for the best Christmas roasties. We always love their Jelly variety.
Bakes: Visit the Lockdown Larder at Kingston Blount Farms, to for Millie's delicious baked treats. Also homegrown meats in the freezer too.
Sadly, our own recipe pies and all the treats & homemade meals from the kitchen will sadly always remain a lovely memory of our shop! But take a moment to visit one of the farm shops above and I'm sure you may just find a new favourite.
