With the onset rapidly approaching of the peat based composts ban, and with very little in the way of testing having been done that I know of in respect of propagation media and methods that will have to be adopted for taking cuttings after the end of 2024, I thought it may be about time that some new trialling was done.
I had heard that some peat free composts were not entirely successful in respect of taking dahlia cuttings and rooting success rates were, shall we say, not especially encouraging. So, whilst I respect that the full blown Nursery owners can continue to use Peat based composts to take their cuttings right up until 2030, giving them another 7 years for the compost manufacturers to dial in their products and find a suitable equivalent to peat based composts for taking cuttings. Unfortunately, anyone who isn't a Nursery will not have that luxury and will have to change over to alternative products from the end of 2024.
To which end, I have decided to trial an alternative product for rooting cuttings for 2024. The product is from an Internationally renowned company and is an exciting opportunity for me to trial their products.
As soon as my samples arrive, then I will be posting more about the product, and updates will follow, so I'll be pleased to answer any questions and act as an intermediary if any grower is interested and would like to purchase going into the new propagating season.
Keep 'em peeled on my page for updates........
