On Saturday 14th March we are incredibly excited to be hosting Oxford biocolours for their first Oxford Trunk Show.

They’ll be bringing their full range of beautiful, colourfast, plant-dyed yarns. A true testament to the scientific innovation and sustainability developed by Jim and his team.

The yarn base is soft, squishy and 100% British wool. I’ve loved getting to know Jim over the past year and watching this dyeing process develop with such passion and care.

So if you’re about on Saturday, come along and squish some revolutionary yarn and maybe learn a bit about the fascinating science behind it!

If you're passionate about knitting, crochet, and helping others find the perfect project, this could be the job for you. Two weeks already since our grand opening!

I can honestly say that the opening day of 1 North Parade was one of the best days ever – I can’t believe it’s already been two weeks since we took over this little corner of Oxford.

With balloons, learn to knit and crochet sessions, Rosie Leech chatting all things mending, and of course our wonderful guests from Chilton Grounds Farm – how could we forget? It all seems a bit of a dream now.

A massive thank you to everyone who came along to celebrate, join in and support. We were truly overwhelmed by the warmth and generosity of our neighbours and community near and far.

What an incredible weekend!

Sorry it’s taken a little while to share – it’s been a bit overwhelming, and I’m only just recovering from the late nights and early mornings! We are so grateful to everyone who has visited, shared kind words, and supported us during the move.

A huge thank you goes to our amazing team, led by James, and to our families who worked tirelessly to make this possible. And to Diana, Duncan and Rosie who made Saturday so special. I couldn’t be more proud of this new space, and I’m so excited to share it with you and to celebrate the journey that brought us here.

Here’s to the future of OYS in its new home – we truly couldn’t have done it without you.

Our Grand Opening wouldn’t be complete without some very special guests. We’ve partnered once again with Chilton Grounds Farm to bring a selection of rare and familiar sheep along to help us celebrate. You’ll be able to meet them in person on Saturday 20th September between 11am till 2pm at 1 North Parade Avenue. Hear the stories behind their fleeces, and perhaps even get a temporary sheep tattoo to remember the day.

We are now in the midst of packing up the old shop and moving over everything to 1 North Parade Avenue. The journey is long and hard, a whole 10 meters, as beautiful illustrated in the photo. We are truly embracing the chaos but can't wait to welcome you all on Saturday 20th September at 11am.

I thought you might be interested in our soon to be new home's history, 1 North Parade Avenue has a story stretching back nearly 200 years. The first house on this site was built in the 1830s, home to the Heritage family, plasterers and slaters with eight children. In 1904 it was transformed into a branch of the City Drapery Stores, complete with an elegant glass shopfront and even one of Oxford’s very first public telephones.

Since then it has been many things — a draper’s, a dairy, a grocer, a laundrette, and of course a hairdresser. Now, after more than a century of change, this historic building begins a new chapter as the home of Oxford Yarn Store. We cant wait to add our stitches to its long story!
