Flat tyre? Don’t let it derail your day

We know how frustrating a puncture can be, especially when you’ve got places to be. That’s why we’re now offering same-day puncture repairs at the workshop.

No booking needed; just pop in Monday to Friday, any time during our opening hours (9-5pm) and we’ll get you rolling again. The earlier you arrive the better to secure a same day slot! 😃

Simply leave your bike with us and it will be ready to collect by 4.30pm the same day, all ready to ride. If the workshop is especially busy and we’ve reached capacity for that day, we will let you know and you may have to come back the next day.

Dr Bike at Eco Fest 2026!

We are proud to support our local community by running a Dr Bike at the Eco Festival in Risinghurst, Headington on the 19th September! 🚲

One of our brilliant mechanics is volunteering their time and will be there ready to welcome you and your bike - offering bike diagnosis, safety checks, friendly advice, tune-ups and minor repairs. The service is free, you’ll only pay for any spare parts used.

Eco Festival is a celebration of our wonderful local nature and wildlife, and exploring ways to help preserve our common home, Planet Earth. Entry and all activities are free, with talks throughout the day on environmental topics. You can find out more about this great event here: https://headingtonchurches.org.uk/

Mark the date in your diaries and we hope to see you there! 😀

Bike of the week 🚲

Every now and then, a really special bike rolls through our recycling programme, and this Kona Africa 3.0 is definitely one of them.

The Kona Africa project, launched in 2006 to support welfare organisations across Africa, saw bikes like this help with vital work such as healthcare workers delivering medication.

Built to be practical, comfortable and low-maintenance, it has a durable steel step-through frame, swept-back commuter handlebars, a simple 3-speed hub gear and a back-pedal rear brake, giving you a ride that's made to last.

Carefully refurbished by our brilliant and passionate recycling team it's ready for its next chapter. 😊

Could this be your next ride? Pop down to the workshop during opening hours on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Fridays to check out our reconditioned bikes. This one won’t stick around for long! https://www.bsbcoop.org/opening-hours

We’ve got loads of useful bike bits and accessories for sale at the Spoke, from pumps, locks, puncture kits and lights to new and mostly second-hand parts at negotiable prices. Handy for your bike, kinder on your wallet, and a little win for the planet too. 😊

We also have what we like to call the cupboard of shiny things: a treasure trove of slightly fancier medium-to-high-end components, quirky finds and cool vintage goodies waiting for the right bike nerd to discover them.

And if you fancy repping Broken Spoke while you’re out and about, we’ve got Broken Spoke tote bags, T-shirts and pin badges too.

Pop in, have a rummage, and see what treasures you can find!
Every purchase supports our mission to teach people of all backgrounds to become self-sufficient and proficient in bike maintenance and riding.

The happy life of a donated cycle! 😃

Donating a bike has such a positive social, environmental and educational impact.
One donated bike can:

🚲Stay out of landfill and avoid unnecessary waste.
🚲Help someone learn practical bike refurbishment skills.
🚲Become affordable transport for a new rider.
🚲Support community bike projects across Oxford.
🚲Keep more people riding, repairing and sharing skills.

Bring your unwanted bike to Broken Spoke and help us give it a second life!
Bikes can be dropped off at the workshop during opening hours. We don't collect bikes as standard, but larger group donations can still be discussed with the team, so please get in touch via [email protected]

Standard procedure requires a test ride, so obviously our volunteer Ben had to take it for a spin. Verdict: 10/10, fast enough to outrun a T-Rex, and the horn works perfectly. 😄🦖

Beryl’s Night is taking a short summer break 🌞

A reminder that there won’t be a session in August, but we’ll be back before you know it in September and hope you will join us then!

Our next session on Thurs 3rd Sept will be a deep dive into pedals. What's so important about pedals? Well, it's hard to cycle without them! We'll be looking at different types of pedals, what maintenance they require, and an introduction to bearing systems. 🚲

Beryl’s Night is a monthly session for women, and all non-binary and trans folk, on the first Thursday of the month. The aim of Beryl's Night is to create a space to learn, fix, teach, hang out, laugh, help each other, high five, ask for help and make friends. 🚲🧡😀

Book in on our website or rock up!

For more info on all our sessions right up until the end of the year please visit our website: https://www.bsbcoop.org/service-page/beryls-night

Looking for a brilliant summer activity for your kids? 😎🚲

We all know school holidays can feel long sometimes, but they’re also a great chance to help your child build confidence on two wheels.

Our 1:1 cycle training sessions give children focused support from a qualified instructor, helping them learn at their own pace in a calm, encouraging environment. Whether they’re just getting started, feeling a bit nervous, or ready to improve their skills, personalised coaching can make a big difference.

It’s also a great way to take the pressure off you as parents and carers. No more running behind the bike, aching backs, or stressful practice sessions!

If you’d like your child to gain confidence, independence and key cycling skills this summer, book a 1:1 cycle training session with our fantastic team of Bikeability accredited cycle instructors. Children must be 8+ and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a guardian.

Meet the team: https://www.bsbcoop.org/team

Please note: as mentioned in recent communications, our cycle training prices will be increasing from 1 August 2026. Any bookings made before that date will be honoured at our current rate.
