Equine Infectious Disease Surveillance (EIDS) data is showing a notable increase in both equine influenza and strangles activity across the UK this spring.
While this is understandably concerning, there are simple and effective steps horse owners can take to reduce risk and help limit spread within the equine community.
✅ Keep vaccinations up to date
✅ Isolate new arrivals where possible
✅ Avoid sharing equipment between horses
✅ Monitor temperatures routinely
✅ Contact your vet promptly if your horse develops coughing, nasal discharge, fever or swollen glands
Awareness and sensible biosecurity remain our best tools for protecting horses and keeping yards running safely.
