The Fair Trade Shop (St Andrew's)

The Fair Trade Shop (St Andrew's) We sell a wide range of fair trade crafts, gifts, homeware and food. Our shop has been running for over 40 years and is staffed entirely by volunteers.

Any surplus the shop makes is given away to charity and over the past 15 years, we have been able to donate over £97,975! We sell a wide range of fairly traded items including:
- Beautiful crafts, gifts and jewellery, created by people all over the world.
- Over 100 different food items, from peanuts, to marmalade, to spicy sauces, to catering packs of coffee, tea and sugar, as well as our amazing

range of chocolate products. What is Fair Trade? Fair trade means that the farmers and producers are given more for their labour than by traditional commercial sources. Within the shop, we also have our “good-as-new” section of toys, homeware, books and clothing donated by the public, all good quality and some items are actually new! The Fair Trade Shop is situated within the St.Andrew’s Church complex. You can visit us or place an order online.

From Bean to Bar: The Final Step🍫

After harvesting, fermenting and drying, cocoa beans are sorted, cleaned and roasted to unlock their rich flavour. The roasted beans are then cracked open to
reveal the cocoa nibs, which are ground into a smooth cocoa mass.

Cocoa mass, cocoa butter and sugar are blended together, stirred continuously over several days and then tempered - processes that create chocolate's signature smooth, silky texture.

And just like that, the cocoa bean becomes delicious chocolate for you to enjoy. A labour of love and skill.

Ever wondered how the chocolate you eat is made?🍫

Chocolate actually comes from a fruit. Cocoa beans are the dried and fermented seeds found inside cocoa pods, which grow on cacao trees in tropical rainforests.

The journey to delicious chocolate begins on the tree, where the right balance of sun, shade and humidity helps cocoa thrive. Our cocoa is grown by in Ghana, where the farmers carefully nurture every crop from pod to bean.

Find out how cocoa is harvested and processed in our next post.

We’ve been voted Best Dark Chocolate by Which? Magazine!

Our 70% Dark Chocolate came out on top, thanks to its rich cocoa flavour and beautifully smooth finish.

Made with Fairtrade ingredients, natural flavours and zero palm oil, it’s ethically sourced, deeply satisfying, and the judge's favourite for a reason.
