Penny Rahatt - a bit about me and my work.

I am a Cornwall based artist and lifelong lover of art and nature.
Having spent many years in art education, I am now enjoying the freedom to develop my own work and explore my love of nature and painting.
Living in Cornwall, I am constantly inspired by the landscape, light, colours and textures of this beautiful county.
I create original encaustic paintings using layers of coloured wax. I love the unpredictability of working with wax, it's movement, texture and subtle changes help shape each piece, allowing the painting to evolve naturally.
Every painting evolves differently and that's what makes each piece unique.
I never make copies or prints, keeping every original piece exclusive.

My favourite time of the year is almost upon us and our makers are beginning to bring in their Halloween and Spooky Season makes.

These delightful ghosts and spooky black star hat style ornaments are handmade in a tiny hamlet just outside Padstow.

Perfect for when you don’t want the usual churned out tat and want something a little bit different, and made with love of course!

Yuck!

The life of a small business is a precarious one at times, and a balancing act of home, life, work and health - with one always being put on the back burner until an emergency comes. This week it’s health!!!

We will be closed for a few days - I’ve been gifted a delightful germ that’s kicking my bum after a very busy Summer holidays so I’m having a couple of days resting.

If one of my lovely makers is able to do a shift we may be open, but I can’t promise.

Feel free to message me if there is something you know you wanted and I’m happy to get it delivered to you (or put back safe for you).

Hopefully be back on top form asap 🤞🏻in the meantime, have a great day all.

My lovely son has mended our website (god I hate computers!) and we have now updated our web address to something a bit more British - we are now PADSTOWGIFTS.CO.UK instead of .com so if you’ve bookmarked the website- we’ve moved!

We hope you’ve all had a wonderful summer holidays.

It’s not over yet, but here is a bit of carnival throwback - (I’m not sure actually - where did that time go?! One minute I was planning loads of posts and the next it was long ago!) Was a great carnival this year in Padstow and lovely to see the floats are slowly coming back too!

Big round of applause to the Nadelik Lowen team for all their hard work.

So, what’s everyone up to today?

The last day of the Cornwall Tattoo Convention and it looks like great fun - but I can’t go without having a new tattoo, and I can’t have one at the moment so missing the fun 🥲. If you went tag us in your new tattoo pics - we’d love to see your art work 🥰

A big welcome to Cara who has joined us in the Dydh Da adventure.

Cara (amongst other things) has written this beautiful illustrated story book about a woman and her dealings with the ‘other’ locals here in Padstow - the Gullies!

A fabulous story book children will want to read again and again, and the adult bedtime readers too!

Her book is available here in store - (or we can post you a copy if you can’t get in to buy one).
