What is scarifying, when should you do it and why does your lawn need it? πΏ
If your lawn is looking a little tired after summer, autumn is a good time to give it some attention.
What is scarifying?
Scarifying uses a rake or powered scarifier to remove built-up thatch, moss and dead organic debris from the surface of your lawn. This helps water reach the soil and improves air circulation around the grass.
When should you scarify?
In the UK, scarifying is generally carried out during periods of active grass growth, particularly spring and autumn. September and October are key months for autumn lawn care, provided conditions are suitable. Avoid scarifying when the ground is waterlogged or the weather is very wet, very dry or frosty.
Why should you scarify?
Removing excess thatch and moss can help improve water pe*******on and air circulation, giving your lawn better conditions for healthy growth and recovery.
