📚 A notebook for every purpose, every mood, and every person.

Whether you’re looking for somewhere to capture ideas, sketch, journal, make lists, write stories or simply keep all those important thoughts in one place, we have rather a lot to choose from!

Our range includes Comix Classic Collection hardback notebooks in a wonderful spectrum of colours, Artway Doodle leather-effect journals in their own gift boxes, and beautiful Rie Designed notebooks featuring British birds, butterflies and dragonflies.

And then there are the ones we make ourselves, including sketchbooks and paper pads, a watercolour paper pad, and notebooks featuring archive imagery from Penicuik’s papermaking heritage.

Have a browse through the photos, then come and see them for yourself at Pen-y-Coe Press. Which one would you choose? ✏️📓

Hello to our new and existing followers!

Pen-y-Coe Press is a little shop with a lot of heart. We've been part of the Penicuik community for over a decade, run entirely by volunteers and proudly independent.

Inside you'll find stationery, greetings cards, notebooks, art materials, local books and maps, alongside our own in-house printed goods.

We're also home to a working Heidelberg printing press—one of those wonderfully characterful machines that reminds you how much care once went into putting words on paper.

Whether you're looking for a beautiful notebook, a birthday card, cycling maps for the Lothians, or simply fancy a browse in a shop where someone always has time for a chat, you'll be very welcome.

Pen-y-Coe Press is part of the Penicuik Community Development Trust, so every purchase helps support the local community.

Come and join us on Instagram for behind the scenes, new arrivals, letterpress printing, workshops, local makers, stationery inspiration, and our mascot Bagpuss! https://www.instagram.com/thepenycoepress/

Do something different on Saturday, come to the ‘coolest’ (ambient temp is mid-teens) place in Midlothian.

Come to Penicuik Papermaking Heritage Museum (No.1 Bridge Street), the only such museum in Scotland.

Find out why Penicuik was of world-wide importance to the papermaking industry?

We’re open on Saturdays from 1.00 - 3.30 pm. No booking is required, just turn up and you’ll be made welcome. While entry is free, donations for upkeep are most welcome.

How do you really make paper? You can make it here and kids love it! Come and find out!
