From a Small Bridgend Shop to a Two-Time Award Winner: The Story Behind KTFGifts Bridgend
At the heart of Bridgend town centre sits a business proving that shopping small can have a very big impact.
KTF Gifts, based at 15 Market Street, is an award-winning gift and craft shop bringing together unique products, handmade creations and the work of more than 100 independent makers and small businesses under one roof.
What began as a simple idea — to create a welcoming shop filled with gifts that offered something a little different from the traditional high street — has grown into a thriving community of creatives from across Wales and the wider UK.
And after being recognised at the Best of Welsh Business Awards in both 2025 and 2026, KTF Gifts has plenty to celebrate.
More Than Just a Gift Shop
What sets KTF Gifts apart is the philosophy behind the business.
As well as selling its own range of gifts, the shop provides shelf space for independent crafters and makers, including postal sellers who may live far beyond Bridgend but want the opportunity to put their products in front of high-street customers.
Importantly, KTF Gifts takes no commission from makers' sales, meaning the money earned from their products stays with the small businesses that created them.
The support doesn't end at providing shelf space either. Makers are promoted through KTF Gifts' social media channels and events, helping introduce their work to new audiences and giving independent businesses a physical presence they may otherwise struggle to achieve.
It has transformed KTF Gifts from simply a retail space into a community of businesses supporting businesses.
Even the name has family at its heart. KTF represents Kelsie, Teddi and Finn-Lei — the children affectionately described as the shop's little “mini bosses” and part of the inspiration behind the business from the very beginning.
Two Years of Best of Welsh Recognition
Running an independent business rarely comes without its challenges, and the team behind KTF Gifts is refreshingly open about the reality of the journey.
There have been mistakes, long days, challenges and plenty of learning along the way. That's one of the reasons receiving recognition through the Best of Welsh Business Awards has meant so much.
After winning in 2025, KTF Gifts returned to receive recognition again in 2026 — something the team describes as an achievement they are incredibly proud of.
But they don't see those awards as belonging solely to KTF Gifts.
For them, they also represent the community of independent crafters and businesses who have trusted the shop with their creations.
“The award is not only about us. We feel it represents all of the amazing crafters and small businesses who trust KTF Gifts to showcase their products.”
The Difference an Award Can Make
For KTF Gifts, taking part in the Best of Welsh Awards has had benefits that extend beyond the trophy itself.
Being able to describe the shop as an award-winning Welsh business has helped give new customers and prospective makers additional confidence in the brand.
The team has seen more people discover KTF Gifts through social media, received increased interest from businesses wanting to join the shop and strengthened its reputation both within Bridgend and further afield.
Perhaps one of the most valuable effects, however, has been something less tangible: confidence.
When you're immersed in the day-to-day reality of running a business, it can be difficult to recognise your own progress.
The awards gave the KTF Gifts team an opportunity to stop, look back and appreciate just how much they had achieved.
Celebrating Welsh Businesses Together
Their experience of the awards night itself was equally memorable.
Surrounded by entrepreneurs and businesses from across Wales, KTF Gifts found an atmosphere filled with people who understood the determination, sacrifice and sheer amount of work that goes on behind the scenes of running a business.
Of course, there was one particular moment that stood above the rest.
Hearing “KTF Gifts” announced as a winner.
It's a moment the team says they'll never forget.
But meeting other businesses, making connections and having an evening dedicated to recognising everyone's achievements proved just as important.
For one night, the work that so often happens quietly behind closed doors was brought firmly into the spotlight.
“Absolutely Go For It”
And KTF Gifts has a simple message for other Welsh businesses considering entering the Best of Welsh Awards:
Do it.
“Do not think that your business is too small, too new or not good enough. Every business starts somewhere, and sometimes you do not realise how much you have achieved until you actually sit down and look back at your journey.”
It's a sentiment that perfectly captures what the awards are intended to celebrate.
Not simply the biggest businesses or those with the longest histories, but the people behind Welsh businesses who turn up every day, take risks, overcome setbacks and keep building.
Even reaching finalist status can bring recognition, exposure, confidence and new connections — while providing a rare opportunity for business owners to celebrate their own achievements.

Despite everything already achieved, the team feels like this is still only the beginning.
The plan is to continue growing KTF Gifts without losing the community spirit that has become such an important part of its identity.
That means welcoming even more talented makers, continuing to champion independent businesses, growing its online and social media presence and, importantly, giving shoppers another reason to visit Bridgend town centre and support local.
From one small shop to more than 100 independent businesses represented under its roof — and two years of Best of Welsh recognition along the way — KTF Gifts demonstrates exactly what can happen when small businesses are given somewhere to grow together.
