Really thrilled to meet Rab Smith on Alive 107.3 of dominoentertainments record shop today during his visit to PZ.

Being a bit of a newbie in the game, it was a real pleasure meet Rab, have a chat and pick his brains after 40 years of running his own shop in Dumfries. That’s four decades of experience, stories, music and probably a fair few characters passing through those doors!

There’s something really special about meeting someone who’s been doing this for so long, purely through a love of records and music.

Big thanks to Rab and his wife Louise for taking the time to visit and stopping to chat — it was an absolute pleasure.

The shop is back open today, with Angela hosting you. I’m out of action until next week, and once again, I apologise to anyone who’s been inconvenienced.

Album of the Week: The Tubs – Hard Life (comes with a signed poster).

Closely followed by the return of Ezra Collective and the new one from Bloc Party.

For those of you who like something a little different, the new album from This Is Lorelei is a gorgeous alt-folk record in the style of Jeff Tweedy.

Reissues: Dollar Brand and Don Cherry’s spiritual jazz opus Third World Underground, alongside the timeless Foxbase Alpha by Saint Etienne.

We’ve finally crawled back from End of the Road — sunburnt, under slept, overcaffeinated, and clinging to the last functioning brain cell we didn’t lose during Bo Ningen’s brain melting Sunday night set on the Boat stage

We saw Geese, Pulp, Angine de Poitrine, plus a whole new batch of names you’ll soon pretend you discovered first: Lily Seabird, 1000 Rabbits, Shaking Hand, Way Dynamic, Little Grandad, Madra Salach.

Meanwhile, other record shops will no doubt claim they already knew all this. We’re sure they did. They’re very clever. We’re just bloody tired.

Anyway — we’re back, slightly broken but spiritually enriched, ready to recommend records like our lives depend on it. From essential reissues like Maggot Brain to Flower Travellin’ Bands legendary Satori and new albums by Bloc Party, Ezra Collective, This Is Lorelei and the rather gorgeous Haruomi Hosono all in shop this Friday.

Great having Morgan involved in the purchasing process. He brought a fresh perspective and suggested some brilliant new stock — Dean Blunt is one of his and we both felt Sun Kil Moon deserved a debut in the racks.
