This has quickly become the most used piece of pottery in my house at dinner time, which is funny because when I first made it I put it into the fail category just because of the lid misalignment 🤣

Tonight I did a thing! 🥘

I made a casserole dish in the pottery studio a while back and just haven’t been brave enough to use it (I kept imagining it blowing up in my oven just like my sculpted bust did in the kiln so I clearly still have PTSD from that incident)

BUT

I decided tonight was the night and so I made a sausage and butter bean casserole and it only went and bloomin worked! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

I made all of these in just an hour and a half at The Workshop 🙌 3 mugs and 4 small vases 😍 by next week they will be ready to be trimmed, slip decorated, and handles will be added to the mugs too! 😊

I often get asked how long it takes to make a piece of pottery, and maybe it’s because I only get 2 hours a week to make things, but I usually find it’s 3-4 weeks minimum, and that’s only if the firings line up with the making! So here’s a wee breakdown -
Week one: Make a pot on the wheel, then it dries slowly to a leathery hard texture through the week.
Week 2: trim off the excess on the wheel, and then it can dry out entirely and be bisque fired (900°c ish).
Week 3 (and where I’m currently at with these pieces): glaze decoration and let it dry, clear glaze dip, wipe the bottoms, then into the kiln for its glaze firing (1200°c ish) which I’m told may be happening this week 🤞🤞🤞.
Week 4: next week you will hopefully see the end result! 😍

A happy little pot! 😍 I absolutely love it! For this piece I scored two depths of rings alternating down the side of the pot, taped the deepest ones, glaze dipped it, and the glaze has beautifully gripped into the grooves of the shallower rings, creating the two tones you see here! Reminds me of a Winnie the Pooh honey pot for some reason 🍯 🐝 ❤️ my husband pretended to be Keith (The Great Pottery Throw Down) when he handled this one 😭😭😭 if you know, you know 🤣
