No doubt there'll be more treats around the house this Halloween that our curious pets are at risk of getting hold of 🍫

Bunty had a scare when she managed to get her paws on some chocolate brownies. Thankfully, her owner acted quickly and called the nearest PDSA Pet Hospital, where they were advised to bring her in straight away.

Chocolate can make dogs very ill and, in some cases, can even be fatal. Bunty was given medicine to safely make her sick, and thankfully, she was soon able to return home, where she made a full recovery.

While most owners know chocolate is dangerous for dogs, accidents can happen quickly. Take extra care today by keeping chocolate and other treats safely away from pets 🎃

What scary pet owner moment do you relate to the most? 🎃

And remember, any persistent behaviour changes are worth contacting your vet.

4 quick tips to keep your pet safe and less stressed this Halloween 👻

According to our 2026 PDSA Animal Wellbeing (PAW) Report, 1 in 4 dog owners say their dog barks at people outside the window, which has the potential to be even higher on Halloween. There are a few things you can do to help reduce stress and confusion:

- Close the curtains so your pet can't see people in costumes or passers-by.
- Create a safe space away from the door with blankets, toys and low music.
- Make sure your pet is in another room when answering the door to trick-or-treaters.
- Keep treats like chocolate, sweets and wrappers out of reach.

Growing up in East London, Kim remembers her parents taking their family pets to their local PDSA Pet Hospital when money was tight. They always donated what they could, and those early experiences stayed with her ❤️

When she recently updated her Will, Kim chose to leave a gift to PDSA just like her mum did. She said, "It’s lovely to follow her example and help a loving family with pets who may be in a similar financial situation to ours all those years ago.”

A gift in your Will helps us fund the care for two out of three pets that we treat. Download our free Gifts in Wills guide for help on writing or updating your Will: https://pdsa.me/d9sg

There are rocky cliff formations in the background. Kim is touching one dog's paws while the other dog is standing nearby. There is a caption discussing family, pets, and a loving memory. Image three - Kim sitting on a brown horse, wearing a safety vest and helmet. There is a pasture and blue sky in the background.
