In the Footsteps of Ronald Blythe 🌷

Join us in celebrating the launch of a wonderful new summer walking tour from the Essex Wildlife Trust, who manages the home of preeminent nature writer and former John Clare Society president, Ronald Blythe.

Running from 11th August, this special 6km guided walk explores the landscapes, people and places that shaped one of Britain’s most celebrated nature writers:

"Beginning at St Andrew’s Church in Wormingford, the walk follows historic footpaths to Bottengoms, the beloved home Ronald Blythe left to Essex Wildlife Trust, and explores the rich artistic and literary heritage of the Dedham Vale.

"You'll also have the opportunity to explore the historic garden and learn more about the Trust’s vision for Bottengoms as a haven for nature, creativity and learning."

NEW ACQUISITION! 📖🌿

We are delighted to announce the purchase of a first edition of Clare's third book, The Shepherd's Calendar for our museum collection.

Published by John Taylor in 1827, the poems inside offer a month by month chronicle of rural, working class life.

The acquisition of this book was kindly supported by the Friends of the Nations’ Libraries.
