Something rather special into the ground this morning.

Beretta 626 side-by-side - a special edition model finished by the manufacturer to commemorate the 1985 Game Fair at Warwick Castle.

Custom stocked to the original owner, this pretty piece sports some clever fitting work.

Bend reduced, comb angle flattened ensures patterns strike high up to the mark. But always the advantage in a gun dedicated to the art and the business of driven game.

Single trigger - probably the most reliable ever. First and second pull weights still perfect.

A quarter-pistol grip here is more deliberately and purposely tapered, broadening upwards from a squared-off cap; sided flat with zero ‘waisting’.

The stocker intends for the hand to move under  recoil.

Shaping progressively ‘binds’ and tightens to the rear hand under the ‘predictable’ influences of recoil. More-so still with barrel angles typically high; shoulder contact unavoidably compromised, progressively ‘failing’.

This clearly the product - I suspect one of Beretta’s own - of a stocker sublime to their craft and art.

Some time ago the great Jim Evans, S.R. Jeffery’s (of Guildford) Master Gunsmith, talked to me of a gun’s innate ability to ‘bump’ to where you needed it to be … “and that’s mainly in the stocking, lad” … “get it right and the gun’s almost there waiting for you.”

In this Beretta 626 I am reminded of you this morning Mr Evans, thankful to all your knowledge.

I get what you mean precisely. And to experience this so very directly is quite a thing I have to say.
