Celebrating Apple Day – 21 October
Did you know that Britain has an extraordinary apple-growing heritage, with more than 2,000 varieties of culinary and dessert apples?
From familiar favourites to heritage varieties grown only in particular parts of the country, they come in an amazing range of flavours, colours and textures – and many are particularly well suited to baking.
Tarts, pies, cakes, turnovers and traybakes are just some of the ways bakers have been making the most of the British apple harvest for generations.
So, this Apple Day, we’re celebrating one of autumn’s most versatile ingredients – and all the delicious things bakers create with it.
