From the original film to the Lyric stage… FAME has officially come home 🎭✨
Last night, we were kindly invited to the Press Night for Theatre Royal Plymouth’s brand-new production of FAME The Musical, the final stop in a pretty special journey with the show.
Earlier this year, we joined TRP at Plymouth Arts Cinema to revisit the original 1980 film. Then, last month, we headed to Everyman Plymouth, where we were introduced to the cast, heard from the director, choreographer and costume designers about how they had been bringing this new production to life, and were treated to exclusive performances of two incredible, new songs from the show.
Then last night, we finally saw it all come alive on stage.
Plymouth’s connection with FAME runs deep. The musical had its European premiere at Theatre Royal Plymouth in 1995 before heading to the West End. Now, more than 30 years later, it has been reignited, revived and reimagined in a bold new production, created, built and truly Made in Plymouth. It’s also the first stage production to include all of the songs from the original film, including some that have never featured in the musical before.
The vocals and choreography were absolutely stunning throughout. Special shout-out to Shanay Holmes’ breathtaking performance of ‘These Are My Children’ as Miss Sherman 🫰🏻
Huge congratulations to everyone involved in bringing such an ambitious production to the stage. It feels so special to see something of this scale begin here in Plymouth.
FAME The Musical is at Theatre Royal Plymouth until 15 August.
Thank you to Theatre Royal Plymouth for having us 🫶🏻
