What a first week it’s been.

A huge thank you to everyone who has come in, bought something, had a chat, shared our posts or recommended us to friends. The support we’ve had since opening has honestly been incredible, and we couldn’t have asked for a better start.

We’ve had some amazing pieces hit the rails already, so here are a few of our favourites from the past week. If you see something you like, don’t hang around for too long… once it’s gone, it’s gone.

W E A R E O P E N 🎉

After weeks of building, painting, tiling, moving stock and figuring things out as we went along, STRATA VINTAGE is finally open.

You’ll find us at:

📍 6 Kings Road East, Swanage

We stock a handpicked mix of vintage and second-hand clothing, with a focus on quality pieces from brands like Carhartt, Patagonia, Ralph Lauren, Levi’s, Adidas, Nike and more, alongside interesting older pieces, workwear, football shirts, outerwear, graphic tees and everything in between.

Opening hours for now:

Thursday: 10am–5pm
Friday: 10am–5pm
Saturday: 10am–5pm
Sunday: 11am–4pm
Monday: 10am–5pm

We’ll be open 7 days a week soon.

We’re also buying clothing.

We’re quite selective with what we take, so we won’t be able to buy everything, but if you’ve got vintage, football shirts, workwear, sportswear or anything you think might fit what we do, bring it in and we’ll happily take a look and make an offer if it’s right for us.

Opening a vintage clothing shop in Swanage - Part 6 🛠️

A busy few days…

We finished building the till, got it tiled and made a start on the grouting.

We also got the stock onto the rails for the first time, which freed up a lot of space out back and finally made the shop start to feel like a vintage shop rather than a building site.

The sign has had its first coats of paint too, ready for the logo to go on shortly.

Inside the changing room, we finished wallpapering and are nearly done in there now.

Most importantly, we let customers through the door for the first time ❤️

A huge thank you to everyone who has popped in, had a look around, and picked something up already. It’s been great meeting people and seeing such a positive response so early on.

We’re away for a few days now, but if everything goes to plan, the official opening will be 13th June (if not before 👀).

Opening a vintage clothing shop in Swanage - Part 5 🛠️

Hard work in this heat recently…

We’ve started moving stock down from our Plymouth storage to the shop in Swanage - one out of two van loads done so far.

Everything’s currently stacked out back, but hopefully it should all start hitting the rails next weekend 👀

We also started building the middle rail section, which is mostly finished now apart from adding more of a display section on top.

And finally, we made a start on the till build too - this will eventually be tiled once it’s finished.

We’re getting there 💪

Opening a vintage clothing shop in Swanage - Part 5 🛠️

Today’s job was mostly working out the rail layout and heights.

We’ve designed everything so we can switch between singles and doubles pretty easily depending on stock, which should make moving things around a lot easier long term.

Cutting all the rails down to size was definitely our favourite part of the process 🤪

Next up:

* securing all the rails in place
* building the till
* building the middle rail section

Still plenty to do before opening, but we’re getting there slowly 👀

Opening a vintage clothing shop in Swanage, Dorset - Day 3/4 🛠️

The last couple of days have mostly been spent sorting the floor out.

Started by painting it bright orange (which looked slightly insane), before sealing a grey coat over the top. As it wears over time, the orange should slowly come through underneath to give it a more worn/patina look, that’s the aim anyway.

We also finished building the changing room, just needs decorating now.

Still plenty left to do before opening, but it’s all starting to come together now.

🚨 100+ PIECE WEBSITE DROP 🚨

Our first web drop as Strata Vintage is now live.

A full mix of vintage clothing has just landed online, and unless they sell beforehand, every piece will also be available in our physical store opening in Swanage this June. ✨

Opening a vintage clothing shop in Swanage - Day 2 🛠️

A slightly more productive day today…

* started planning the shop layout
* finished blocking up the doorway for the changing room
* painted all the walls
* our rails + fittings finally arrived 🙏

Slowly starting to look less like an empty room and more like an actual shop now.

Still aiming for a mid June opening 👀

Opening a vintage clothing shop in Swanage - Day 1 🛠️

A lot less glamorous than buying clothes unfortunately…

Today we:

* floored the back room (future storage + photo area)
* built the first wall for the changing room
* partially blocked up one of the doors to make the layout work
* covered the windows so people stop trying to look inside already 👀

Still a long way to go before opening in June, but things feels are starting to happen.

STRATA VINTAGE 🌊
Formerly Rectory Vintage.

After keeping things quiet for a while, we can finally share what’s been going on behind the scenes.

We’ve recently picked up the keys to a physical shop in Swanage, Dorset, and we’re aiming to open mid June.

With the move from Plymouth to Swanage, it felt like the right time for a new name too, so Rectory Vintage is becoming STRATA VINTAGE.

We’re not starting over, more just taking what we’ve built over the last few years and moving it somewhere new. Swapping one seaside location for another felt pretty fitting.

Same people, same good clothes, just a different place.

Our website will be live again in the next few days whilst we make a few updates 🖥️
