**JOB VACANCY:** TEMPORARY RETAIL & PACKING ASSISTANT

Location: Albert Road, Devonport
Pay: National Minimum Wage (Dependent on age)
Contract Type: 3-Month Temporary (With potential to extend into 2027)
Start Date: ASAP

HOURS & AVAILABILITY
- Fixed Schedule: Monday and Tuesday, 08:00 – 13:00 (10 hours per week).
- Non-Negotiable: These hours are strictly fixed. Due to the 08:00 start time and fast-paced morning workflow, this role will not suit candidates who need to complete a morning school run.
- Peak Season: It is very likely that extra hours will be available throughout November and December to assist with peak holiday demand.

ROLE OVERVIEW
The Crafty Black Dog is looking for a reliable, self-motivated, and physically active individual to join our shop on Albert Road, Devonport, for an immediate 3-month contract. You will be responsible for opening up the shop on Monday and Tuesday mornings, setting up the daily operations, and ensuring customer orders are processed swiftly and accurately.

This is a fast-paced position where you will be on your feet for the duration of your shift. At the end of the 3-month period, we will review business needs to discuss the potential of extending this role into 2027.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Morning Opening: Promptly opening and securing the shop at 08:00 on Mondays and Tuesdays.
- Order Processing: Printing incoming online orders and accurately writing out the daily production/make list.
- Packing & Dispatch: Assembling, packing, and wrapping orders from the previous day, applying correct postage labels, and preparing items for shipping.
- Assembly: Building and organising orders exactly as directed by the business owner.
- Hygiene & Maintenance: Carrying out a thorough cleaning of the shop once a week (this is an essential and non-negotiable part of the routine).

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
- Physical Fitness: You must be physically fit, highly energetic, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where you are on your feet all morning.
- Attention to Detail: Excellent organisational skills to manage order sheets and packing lists without errors.
- Reliability: Punctuality is critical, as you will hold keyholder responsibilities for opening the shop.
- Military Knowledge (Beneficial): Previous military experience or a strong knowledge of military themes is highly advantageous, given the nature of our business.

25 years ago today, I was a young L/Cpl, based at Permanent Joint Headquarters in London.

I still remember how quickly the atmosphere in the Ops Room changed that day. Within hours, the dynamics were completely different. What had started as an ordinary day suddenly became something none of us would ever forget.

We watched events unfold, tried to comprehend what was happening, and knew instinctively that the world had changed.

But what followed was a journey that would last for years. Operations, deployments, long days and nights, and friendships forged in circumstances that are difficult to explain to anyone who wasn’t there.

And, sadly, remembering 9/11 also means remembering the friends and colleagues we lost in the years that followed. People who went to work, served their country and never made it home.

Today isn’t just about remembering the events of that terrible day. It’s about remembering the people. The mates, the colleagues, the families and the lives changed forever.

I will never forget the Ops Room that day.
I will never forget what came after.
And I will never forget those we lost.

Lest we forget. 🕊️
