September always feels a bit like New Year, probably because the kids go back to school and we start thinking about learning new skills ourselves as well as building on current ones. Our Autumn courses begin with our Learn to Spin day and then at the end of the month, a Learn the Basics day for those who would like to make socks.

Lots of knitters already knit socks from the cuff-down, finishing with a grafted join on the toe. This class teaches how to knit socks beginning at the toes, starting with a cast-on to create a seamless toe and then carrying on to finish at the cuff. It's quite an enjoyable method and avoids the dreaded Kitchener stitch!

Workshop Deposits Price Increase

We've had a recent spate of people booking workshops with a deposit and then not showing up on the day. Most of our customers respond to our reminders but there are a few who don't respond to our attempts to contact them. This means that the workshop runs at a loss as we don't have the opportunity to fill the space.

Our policy will change so that the deposit is half the workshop price so that we can cover our costs, materials and teaching fees.

Our deposits are non-refundable except in exceptional circumstances. If a customer is unable to attend and gives enough notice to fill the place, then we can refund.

We're sorry to have to do this but we cannot continue to run workshops at a loss.

For the crocheters amongst us a granny square blocking board is a really useful tool to make sure that all the squares are evenly matched sizes. Katia's Wooden blocker comes complete with pins and needles giving everything needed for professional looking results.

Autumn stock is starting to arrive and we've just had a top-up of Katia's Atenea. We used this lovely yarn in our Ebb Tide Shawl and we now have some extra colours as well as some with added glitter.

Atenea is a gorgeous soft yarn spun from virgin Wool, Mako Cotton and Cashmere. We used it as the contrast yarn in our shawl together with Malabrigo Sock 4-ply as the solid colour. The difference in weight and texture between the two yarns really makes the pattern sing and it really is a very wearable accessory. Atenea can be used on its own to make very lightweight airy feelor stranded with another yarn for a heavier handle and a soft brushed effect.

We've just received stock of this years Ricorumi Advent Box and Christmas CAL from Rico.

The Christmas CAL Box 6 has eight festive designs for Christmas Wreaths. The box contains a total of 35 balls of yarn, including 20 balls of Ricorumi dk, 4 balls of Ricorumi Furry Furry DK, 10 balls of Ricorumi Nilli Nilli DK and 1 ball of Ricorumi Lamé to make the designs with. The box is £55.00 and is a great way to get ready for Christmas.

The 2026 Ricorumi Advent Calendar "Advent Advent" includes 16 balls, 11 patterns and well as a crochet hook, as well as filling cotton and stitch markers. The 24 doors of the box contain yarns and accessories that are needed for a Christmas crochet project and it is £70.00.
