Well this one looks impressive, doesn't it. This Accurascale OO gauge Class 50 model has just arrived at the Railway Shop, Blaenavon. In BR days these locos could be seen on a range of UK main lines and preserved examples are still out and about on specials as well as many Heritage Railways. One for your layout?

Let's not forget that this coming Friday, Saturday and Sunday sees the Industrial Steam in South Wales Gala at the Blaenavon Heritage Railway. Featured amongst a range of guest locos is GWR 0-6-0 Pannier Tank no. 7754 from the Llangollen Railway. The attached Richard Morgan photo from March 1970 shows 7754 during its stay in Talywain before the NCB moved it to Mountain Ash. The Station Emporium will be open throughout the Gala and on the Friday and Saturday, you could combine a visit to the Gala with a visit to the Railway Shop in Broad Street in the middle of Blaenavon.

Currently available for sale at the Railway Shop, Blaenavon is this rather excellent 'O' gauge model of a GWR pannier tank with sound chip included. Of course, it won't be long now before we'll be seeing a full-size classmate on the Blaenavon Heritage Railway with 7754 visiting from Llangollen at the Gala on 25-27th September.

Another interesting loco we have in stock at the Railway Shop, Blaenavon is Heljan's version of the Gas Turbine loco illustrated here, no. 18100. Originally ordered by the Great Western Railway, it was delivered to British Railways. In this form it spent a number of years working out of Paddington on express trains, before in time being converted into an early electric loco. A fascinating history.

The Railway Shop has a range of the excellent Bachmann and Hornby buildings to add to your model railway. Then there is the Metcalfe Range of card buildings, that are such fun to make up. Models and items with a local connection always catch my eye and here we have a Transport for Wales branded Class 150 DMU. It is a Graham Farish model and hence 'N' gauge. You don't see the 150 units so much these days, but I have seen one of the local units making its way up the valley to Ebbw Vale recently, so it remains relevant. Currently on sale at the Railway Shop, Blaenavon.

This weekend sees the Transport Rally at the Blaenavon Heritage Railway. The chance to view a range of historical transport by the Railway. The attached photo shows a Rally held back in 1998. Glasshoughton No. 4 heads north from a bleak looking Furnace Sidings with no sign of the lakes behind. How things have changed. Visitors on Saturday will also be able to visit the Railway Shop in the middle of Blaenavon for all your railway modelling needs.
