Another mini selection to show you today - this time Birthweight Bears.
However, a weighted bear can be any memorable weight...birthweight, home from hospital weight ....any weight up to around 12lb (dependant on design and size).
As my bears are larger than most - 16 inches from table top when seated, I have lots of room to make those heavier weights possible.
Weighted bears should only be filled with specific 'for purpose' steel shot weighting. It is treated so it will not rust over time and is very often the only way to get the weight needed within the limited space.
If you are thinking of having a weighted bear made when you do your research for a maker ask what they weight with. I have seen rice, sand, glass beads, fishing weights, fishtank gravel, pebbles and even flour mentioned as weighting materials used by some! These may work out cheaper but they will either rust, rot, get damp, escape or even attract bugs. They definitely won't last as long as Steel Shot.
I enclose the weight in small bags that are placed evenly amongst the stuffing of the legs, chest and bottom. Weight is not added to the head or arms as this would compromise the stability of the bear and put unnecessary pressure on seams. This weight placement will give the bear a slightly different 'cradle feel' than an actual baby, but it will still be the exact weight you want.
The additional charge will depend on the weight to be achieved.
Please be aware that these bears are also more expensive to post home, so do bear that in mind when ordering. I only ever charge the actual price of postage, as all of my packaging is recycled.
Please message me if you have any further questions regarding a Weighted Bear.
