Our talented maker of the month for September is Ellie. She has created some lovely pieces for us based on the iconic Lido here in Portishead. 🩵🩵🩵
Ellie says “I am a local textile artist inspired by the natural world and my beautiful surroundings in North Somerset.
My work is largely based around nature and local places of interest.
I like to combine textile techniques to achieve my art textile pieces. I have learnt and taught a wide variety of techniques including hand embroidery, machine embroidery, applique, reverse applique, batik, printing, patchwork, needle felting, and quilting - but i’ll try anything!
I’m re-learning bobbin lace and tatting at the moment, I love the idea of keeping traditional textiles alive and bringing them into the modern world.
I’ve taught dressmaking for many years and have had it as a hobby for much longer, I’m fascinated (and a little obsessed) with fabric. I find it the perfect medium to work with to create art pieces.
I have created a range for EBB and FLO, based on the LIDO - the local outdoor swimming pool in Portishead. I love it’s iconic shapes and colours. Pop in to see my tote bags, quilted mini prints, pictures & zip up bags.
All my pieces are designed and made by me in North Somerset.”
