Hi everyone, I hope you're all well.

I just wanted to share my friend's new business - making notebooks to sell on Amazon. It's a new project for her, mainly a bit of fun, but she is hoping to be able to bring in a little income while she works from home.

As I know only too well, it can be really tough to start from scratch, so it would be great if you could give her a follow while she develops her brand and business. Who knows? You may even choose to buy a notebook!
Click on the link to find her.

Thanks.

Are you still using your wraps?

Remember, if you look after them well and regularly refresh them, they will last a long time.

See previous posts on how to keep your wraps in great condition. ๐Ÿ

Hey everyone,

I hope you're all well. It's been a loooong 2 years!

I'm just posting to remind you to refresh your wraps. Doing so will not only reactivate the antihbac qualities of the wax etc, but also prolongs the life of your wraps.

I'm refreshing around 30 in the oven this evening. Pop 5 on a baking sheet, into the oven (at around 140ยฐc) for a few mins, waft about to cool and they're ready!

The blue & orange wraps are the first I ever made back in 2018 and are still going strong!

I don't believe this will come as surprise to many...

After a fabulous few years, I've made the decision to stop making beeswax wraps. To be quite honest, I haven't made a single wrap since before Christmas!

Making beeswax wraps was the business I never planned to have.

After being made unemployed, I decided to make a few wraps for myself. I answered a question on a local parenting page saying they were easy to make, and offered to make someone a couple. From there, I was suddenly overwhelmed with requests for wraps, and looked to set myself up properly to sell them. Each wrap would be cut by me, waxed by me and packaged in sleeves designed, printed out and cut with scissors - by me. I would worry for hours about the quality of the wax mix, and whether you would like them. It felt like a lot of responsibility that weighed heavy on my mind. At the same time, I had my teaching responsibilities, volunteering roles and most importantly, my husband and children to consider.

The support from friends, family and clients from all over the UK has been amazing! Your belief in me, and the product has been the best, and I am proud that there are thousands of beeswax wraps that I have made, being used all over the UK, and also as far away as America and New Zealand. (Does that mean I had an international business? ๐Ÿ˜‰)
One highlight was a post regarding Comic Relief Red Noses having an impact on the environment - a post copied from https://www.facebook.com/RamePeninsulaBeachCare/ which reached over 1 million people. (Did you notice the composition of the noses was changed this year to make them recyclable?) I also loved workshops I ran with local schools and brownie units. It was so good to help children learn how small actions can make a big difference.

I will continue to try and make an impact in my own small way, but for now, thank you all for your love, support, community and belief.

This morning I've been revitalising my wraps. With care, your wraps can last up to a year, or even longer! Have a look at my photos, ALL these wraps are about 18 months old. I've spent 30 minutes refreshing them with my iron, and now they're looking fresh and ready to use again.

DON'T throw your wraps out, use your iron to prolong their life.

1. Pop an old tea towel on your ironing board, cover with a large piece of foil. Layer a large piece of baking parchment over the foil.
2. Put your wrap on the parchment, and cover with a 2nd piece of parchment.
3. Iron your wrap to melt the wax mixture. Remove the top layer of parchment quickly, pull up the wrap and waft around to cool it.
4. I hang mine on an airer for a couple of minutes until the wrap is stiff again.
5. Fold and they are ready to use.

I hope to start making wraps again soon. Watch this space.

I was asked a while ago how to refresh wraps if you haven't got an iron. So I've finally got round to showing you.
Please excuse the state of my kitchen. We're doing a lockdown clear out, but kind of stopped in the middle of it! (And my crocheted pot holders were made by my mum 18 years ago. They're completely stained with age, but were washed yesterday! They work so well, I just can't get rid!)

If you don't want to watch the video...

1) pre heat oven to 130ยฐc
2) line an old baking tray with foil (optional) and baking parchment.
3) pop your wraps on the tray.
4) put in oven for around 3-5 mins.
5) when wax is melted and redistributed, take out, remove from tray and allow to cool.

Your wraps are now ready to go. ๐Ÿ

Hi everyone.

I'm back!

Sorry for the delay, I know there are people who are looking to order or waiting for orders. I will do what I can during this time.
Obviously waiting times haven't been helped by me breaking a bone in my hand... After nearly 5 weeks, my hand is good enough for small bursts of cutting fabric ready to wax, and I'm so pleased to finally have my cutting mat out again. ๐Ÿ˜

Please be patient with me, it will take a while to get back to speed again, but I'm hoping to turn my waxing pot on again tomorrow.

Here's a few Bee facts for you. :)

It's World Bee Day on 20 May, so let's take a look at why bees are so important to life on planet Earth.

Hey all! Lockdown day 51! How is everyone?

Just to update you, I'm still not able to make wraps just at the minute, as my hand is in a plaster cast now, (it was in a support for 2 weeks, but this was changed at the weekend) after breaking the pisiform bone at the base of my hand. (Thought the bone's name was quite appropriate... ๐Ÿ˜‰) It is the tiniest bone to cause so much hassle - see the photo below.
It's been 2ยฝ weeks so far - pretty frustrating - but I'll know more once I've been back to hospital next week.

Keep smiling, the sun will be shining again soon.

So how have you been keeping busy over the past 6 (!!!) weeks? I've found that my life has slowed down, and I am (mostly) enjoying spending time with my family.
Last week I decided to join 'The Sourdough Massive.' I made my starter and feed it religiously. We used some of the discard for fluffy pancakes on Sunday.
Yesterday, I used the discard to make this Cinnamon and Raisin loaf, and the starter to make my first ever sourdough loaf.
The raisin bread is almost gone already, and we love the taste of the sourdough. I need to work on the rise, though perhaps if I use a recipe where it proves overnight, I would get better results.
I can't knead the bread at the moment, as my dominant hand is still strapped up, but I have discovered the dough hooks on my little hand mixer...

If you have any tips or recipes for the best sourdough loaf, please share them with us.

(And don't forget your wraps are great for keeping your bread fresh! ๐Ÿ

Hello!

What fabulous weather we have. I'm so grateful for our garden and for the amazing walks we have close by. We're loving spotting butterflies and birds, and the other day, my children even saw fox cubs playing together in the nature reserve.
I hope all is good for you.

Anyway, a quick update...

I am unfortunately unable to make it complete any wraps for me at least 2 weeks. I fell over yesterday, and damaged my left hand. Being left handed, I'm finding it difficult to do anything, and certainly can't cut or wax fabric.

Sorry for the delay, but completely unavoidable for now.

Take care. X
