Fragrance oils vs. Essential oils – How to tell the difference?
The big candle lover you are you probably noticed that some candles contain essential oils and some have frangrance oils in them.
So what exactly is the difference?
✔Essential oils are actually plant compounds. They are derived from plants and they contain the strongest scents of that plant.
✔Fragrance oils are actually aynthetic or natural aroma compounds and they are mixed with with scentless carrier oils.
Because of the origin and way of production, there are many other differences that affect the candle quality as well:
📌Fragrance oils have bigger and better scent throw per unit because they are made to deliver the strongest scent
📌On the other hand, essential oils have longer shelf life. It is widely believed that essential oils can last from 2 to 5 year, with some types of essential oils can last to 15 years or more. Frangrance oils have shelf life of only 12 months.
📌When it comes to safety, there is no difference between the two, but in general, essential oils are considered more natural. But if you use essential oils, make sure you follow all neccessary precautions as many plants can have some allergic reactions.
📌Because of the way of productions, essential oils are more expensive, and that increases the costs of candle production too.
