LVT Installer Tips #3 – Why the Correct Notch Trowel Matters

Did you know your trowel notch can have a huge impact on the finished installation?

Using the correct notch ensures the adhesive is spread at the right coverage and depth, giving the flooring the support it needs.

✔ Too small a notch? You may not achieve enough adhesive coverage.

✔ Too large a notch? Excess adhesive can squeeze through joints, increase drying times and create unnecessary waste.

Always use the notch trowel specified by the adhesive manufacturer—it's been tested to deliver the correct adhesive spread rate for that product.
The industries best acknowledged trowel would the A2 notch.

It's a simple tool, but choosing the right one can make the difference between a good installation and a great one.

LVT Installer Tips #2 – Choosing the Right Adhesive

Not all LVT adhesives are the same, and using the correct one can make all the difference to a successful installation.

Here's a quick guide:

✅ Soft Floor Covering Adhesive - Bostik Stix A800 Premium.
Ideal adhesive for most LVT’s and Rubber flooring. With a high initial grab creating a strong bond and long working time, making sure it’s going off before you get to laying, this has quickly become our go to adhesive for customers.
An equivalent of this is F58+ by Fball

✅ Pressure-Sensitive Adhesive - Bostik Stix A640
Perfect for most dimensional stable LVT installations. It allows the adhesive to dry to a tacky finish before laying the flooring, helping minimise adhesive squeeze and making tile replacement easier if required.
An equivalent of this is F46 by Fball

✅ High Temperature Adhesive - Bostik Stix A930 multi faser
Designed for areas exposed to heavier loads, rolling traffic or increased temperatures. The flooring is laid into the wet adhesive, creating a stronger permanent bond once cured.
An equivalent of this is F48 by Fball

The best adhesive always depends on the flooring manufacturer's recommendations, the subfloor and the environment the floor will be used in.

LVT Installer Tips #1 – Your LVT is Only as Good as the Subfloor
The best LVT in the world won't perform properly if it's installed onto a poor subfloor.
Before any adhesive is applied, make sure the subfloor is:

✔ Clean – Free from dust, debris, paint, plaster and contaminants.

✔ Dry – Always test the moisture levels. Never assume a floor is dry enough.

✔ Smooth – Imperfections will often show through LVT, so prepare the surface properly.

✔ Sound – Loose, cracked or weak areas should be repaired before installation begins.

Remember, most flooring failures aren't caused by the LVT itself—they start with poor subfloor preparation.

Taking the time to get the subfloor right will help ensure a long-lasting, professional finish that both you and your customer can be proud of.
