📚 THE WORKHOUSE BOOK CLUB 📚
We are looking for three curious readers.
A good book can take you somewhere unexpected, into another life, another time, another place, or perhaps even a little closer to understanding your own.
We would like to invite three individuals to become the very first members of The Workhouse Book Club.
We have chosen six carefully curated books for you to choose from, each with its own story to discover: from a child caught in the Spanish Civil War and a life-changing journey through Ghana, to a Gothic mystery inspired by Mary Shelley, a powerful story of Wales, poetry and recovery, a walk around the edge of Cymru, and the ghosts, fairies, songs and traditions of Herefordshire.
The six books are:
📖 Albi by Hilary Shepherd
📖 In a Foreign Country by Hilary Shepherd
📖 The Forger’s Ink by Jo Mazelis
📖 The Crazy Truth by Gemma June Howell
📖 The Edge of Cymru: A Journey by Julie Brominicks
📖 The Folk-Lore of Herefordshire by Ella Mary Leather
If you are UK-based and would like to be one of our first three readers to win a book, simply:
- Make sure you FOLLOW
- LIKE this post
- and comment BOOK below
We will then send you a message asking which of the six books you would choose, and, more importantly, why.
Three winners will be selected at random from all valid entries, and we will do our best to match each winner with their preferred book.
All we ask in return is that you read your book and, within 8 weeks, create a short, creative review that we can share across The Workhouse Gallery & Café’s social media channels. Your review could be a Reel, a short video, a voiceover, stop-motion or something completely your own. You don’t have to show your face, but you can if you’d like to.
The prize draw closes at 11:59pm BST on Monday 24 August 2026, and the three winners will be contacted by DM on Tuesday 25 August 2026.
