We have a lovely selection of new pattern books in stock, covering both crochet and knitting. But my favourite has to be The Wonder of Wool: A Knitter’s Guide to Pure Breed Sheep.

It’s a beautiful hardback book, with eight fabulous knitting patterns, but what I really love about it is the information. It’s one of the best-informed books about British sheep and wool that I’ve read, and there’s loads in it to get stuck into.

And then there’s the bit that makes me smile…

Flock & Skein gets a little mention as a recommended supplier of British wool.

When I started this little business, I honestly never imagined something like that would happen. I was just doing what I loved, working with British wool and trying to build something of my own.

So seeing Flock & Skein mentioned in a book like this is a pretty special moment for me. It might be a little mention, but it means an awful lot.

Anyway, enough of me being sentimental!

The books are available in store and online now, if you fancy a new project or just a good excuse to sit down with a cuppa and read about sheep and wool.

🐑 You may have accidentally become a Crazy Needle Felter… 🧶

It starts innocently enough…

“I’ll just have a little play with this fibre.” 🌿

Fast-forward a few hours and you’re surrounded by colourful fluff, armed with a ridiculously sharp needle, and somehow creating a wonky woodland creature that didn’t exist this morning. 😂🦊🍄

Then come the quirky animals.
The strange little mushrooms.
The tiny plants.
The wonderfully weird flora & fauna.

And before you know it, you’re looking at every sheep thinking…

“I wonder what I could felt from that?” 🐑😂

There’s no cure.
There doesn’t need to be. 😉

Autumn Range — Shade No. 2: ‘Beetroot! 🫜
It’s been another busy day here at Flock & Skein, carding wool and creating lots of lovely autumnal fluff — and I’ve been looking forward to showing you this one.
After introducing Pumpkin yesterday, it’s time to reveal the second shade in our new Autumn Range…
Meet ‘Beetroot’ 🫜 🍁 🍁
Beetroot is a beautiful, earthy Russet Burgundy. Deep, warm and full of autumn character.
I think it’s going to be a lovely one for needle felting — autumn leaves, berries, or fungi and all those gorgeous little details that make an autumnal creation come to life.

And for those of you who like to spin, it’ll make a rather lovely autumn yarn too.

Pumpkin was yesterday… Beetroot is today… I wonder what next week will bring?
I’m having far too much fun creating this collection and I hope you enjoy seeing it come together as much as I am!

📚🐑 JUST ADDED TO THE WEBSITE! 🐑📚

I’m rather chuffed to say that Flock & Skein gets a little mention in The Wonder of Wool: A Knitter’s Guide to Pure Breed Sheep. 🥰 And what a lovely book to be mentioned in!
A celebration of Britain’s incredible sheep breeds and the wonderfully diverse wool they produce — from the sheep themselves, their history and habitats, right through to the fleeces and yarn they create.
With 30 pure British breeds, beautiful photography and 10 knitting patterns designed around different breed-specific yarns, it’s a proper love letter to British wool. 🐑🧶❤️
For knitters, spinners, weavers, felters and anyone who has ever looked at a sheep and thought “I wonder what I could make with you?”… this one’s for you!

And we’re especially delighted that Flock & Skein has made it into its pages. 🥹

🍂🎃 NEEDLE FELTERS… IT’S HAPPENING. 🎃🍂
The nights are slowly drawing in, the leaves are getting their autumn wardrobe on and suddenly we’re all pretending we need to make 47 tiny pumpkins. 😂
